Chiron [Official] Bugatti Chiron

The Bugatti Chiron is a mid-engine two-seater sports car designed and developed in Germany by Bugatti Engineering GmbH. It was manufactured in Molsheim, France, by French automobile manufacturer Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.. The successor to the Bugatti Veyron, the Chiron was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show on 1 March 2016.
Is this true btw? If so, it was all way too quick

Don't think so, there is no official word from Bugatti yet, it is possible, Ferrari managed to sell all 499 LaFerrari before it was officially revealed, but then again Ferrari is the master at this.

The only official confirmation was at the unveiling on February 29th,where the Bugatti CEO stated that more than 1/3 of the entire production run of 500 cars have been taken...Certainly they must have taken some more orders since then

Quick question btw, does anyone know if those air slats on the CF door trim are plastic/metal/carbon-fiber (The one visible on the top left corner, right by the window)?

Knowing Bugatti and their obsessive attention to details, you would have to kill them before convincing them to apply any plastics (not to mention the press conference said "0" plastics on the car, inside and out), but wasn't sure so I just wanted to check...Thx

I watched the press conference again,at least the part where they clearly state "NOT A SINGLE PIECE OF PLASTIC" was used in the car,be it the interior or the exterior... Hmmm, so maybe not plastic afterall??

Heard from one of my work-related contacts in the Volkswagen Group that the engine has 32 fuel injectors, so 2 per cylinder?

That's correct .It was also mentioned in the press.
Interesting.... Must have missed that one. So the engine is also slightly different (ie the turbos, injectors and so on) than that of the Veyron, quite apart from the different transmission, monocoque and what have you.... Certainly not a Veyron 2.0, that's for sure

The engine has been comprehensively revised, to get an extra 300hp more than the 1200hp engine from the Veyron SS requires some more work than just a simple tune up I guess. People say it is a Veyron 2.0 because in essence it follows the formula of the Veyron, but tuned up to the max.

Now the Chiron seems to have received its official watch

Parmigiani FleurierThe Bugatti Chiron gets its watch
— Parmigiani-Fleurier presents the new PF-Bugatti Type 390 concept watch, inspired by the squat, sloping lines of the new Bugatti Chiron supercar.

Other watch brands would just re-badge an existing model, much as a Fiat 500X can become a Jeep Renegade, depending on who is selling it. But like Bugatti, Parmigiani-Fleurier does things differently – very differently.

One of the stars of this year’s Geneva International Motor Show is the Bugatti Chiron. Put simply, it is the world’s fastest production car. In figures that means 1469 horsepower, a top speed of 261 miles per hour (limited by Bugatti) and a weight of just 1995kg. To put that into perspective, this car weighs just 150 kilogrammes more than your editor-in-chief’s Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, but it has over TWELVE TIMES the power.

Suffice it to say that producing a watch that meets up to the level of specifications of the Chiron (16 cylinders, four turbochargers…) is no easy task. But Parmigiani Fleurier has been a partner of Bugatti for a number of years and has already produced a handful of exotic timepieces that match Bugatti’s “next-level” car status.

Power-to-weight ratio
As the simple comparison above showed, Bugatti achieves such mind-boggling figures by producing colossal amounts of power in a configuration that weights little more than the average family saloon car. Parmigiani has taken this as its guiding light to produce a concept in which the “engine” of the watch is reduced to the size of a cylinder whose diameter is no bigger than its tourbillon regulator.

Both weight and space are saved in this ingenious mechanism. Firstly, a unique “clamp rod” component replaces four components found in traditional wristwatches: the trigger piece, bumper, lever and lever spring in the winding mechanism. This winds two barrels that are coupled directly in series and power a gear train that is mounted axially, with planetary gears assembled one on top of the other. At the end of the transmission chain, the flying tourbillon regulator, beating at a relatively high 4Hz, offers an excellent power-to-weight ratio that puts the PF Bugatti Type 390 in chronometer territory.

Unlike, say, the Hublot La Ferrari, which has a similar movement configuration but keeps the time display on the same vertical plane, the Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti Type 390 uses a worm screw to convert the transmission to a horizontal plane so that the time can be displayed on a conventional dial. The result is a more wearable timepiece that retains the distinctive angular design that prevails throughout the Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti models.

Very articulate explanation of why a hybrid drivetrain wouldn't make sense for the Bugatti Chiron. Thanks for sharing, @lafars

while i must admit a flat torque curve from 0rpm would be cool to see, it would bring a packaging problem, so it wasn't worth the effort, and yes he does bring up a lot of valid points

I admit it wasn't love at first sight for me ......but i've become quite besotted with it over the past couple of days.

I know you're not a fan of VAG Gianclaudio, but this is a very special vehicle nonetheless. The only great car made in France today is undoubtedly the finest car in the world.

Leaving my dislike for VAG as a company aside, I don't see the appeal of the Chiron. Yes, it has the engine the size of a distribution truck, the power of a switcher locomotive, and weights about a well spec'd S class or 7er. What's the fun of driving a 2 tonne sport car?

I'm sorry, this is a super rich's toy, just to show excess. If I had 2.5 millions to burn (like Klier and his yatch or Monster and his satellites) on a car, I'll probably buy a F1 car from the 2000's or a race car, and have the fun of my life. For everyday a nice S coupe will do absolutely fine.

Same could be said of all the hypercars, no?

A good portion of clientele for these cars want the premier automobile. One with the most horsepower, the highest price tag, the highest levels craftsmanship, highest top speed etc...They need not drive anywhere near the limit, but they can cruise around the streets of Monaco, London, Miami, and LA in the automotive equivalent of a parade float, knowing that they'll have millions of videos/pictures taken, have other drivers move aside, and have their hypercar parked front and center at any venue they attend. If attention is not adequate, then why not wrap it in a loud color for the desired effect....

The reason why 2000s F1 cars are in the same price range as the hypercars, if not, cheaper is because operating costs are absolutely astronomical. Then you have to muster together and maintain a pit team. I agree it would be much more thrilling.

IMO,Chiron or Veyron is the car of ultimate Bentley Continental GT and Mercedes S coupe.

Was wondering how they got it approved for certain markets...Glad they did though
Here's Why The Bugatti Chiron Can Have A Single Strip Of LEDs As A Tail Light

What McLaren’s Design Director Frank Stephenson was inspecting at the Geneva Motor Show is the Bugatti Chiron’s LED taillight, a continuous strip of redness all across the rear. Four years ago, the Volkswagen XL1 couldn’t have that. Here’s why.

Coming up with something new in the lights department is hard in the car industry. Audi’s sequentially activated indicator blocks are still illegal in the United States, and so are laser headlamps. That’s stupid, but so is Donald Trump running for president, yet both are still happening.

The Volkswagen XL1's tail lamp design was doomed from the beginning due to the hatchback’s layout, but they also had to leave a bit of space unlit in the middle to make this qualify as “multiple lamps.”

Whatever, it’s still cool! Photo: VW
It all comes down to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and their ECE R 48 Abs.2.16.2 document, which states the following:

The Volkswagen XL1 simply doesn’t comply with the 60 percent rule, while the Bugatti Chiron does. That’s why it can have this at the back:
