X5 [Official] BMW X5 (G05)

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
Surprisingly I, at most, see an X5-M or X6-M once every six months unlike the more frequently spotted Cayenne Turbo,GLE 63 and RR SVR.

X6 M would likely be the most rare but according to registration data the GLE 63 would statistically be rarer than than the X5 M. Cayenne Turbo's are somewhat more popular but the SVR is the one you're likely to see the most, in the UK at least.

I wonder if it'll come with an uprated engine compared to the M5 because of it's extra weight? Maybe @bmwblog knows anything about the engine. Maybe it'll have the competition engine as standard? Not that I think 600 hp is too little in this car, but it will be nice if it just takes care of the Urus from the get go.

M5 to be the fastest...

Will ask around

ESSAI BMW X5 M50d M PERFORMANCE (2019) - AUTO MAG la passion automobile online

Got an opportunity to drive it a few weeks ago. A highly specced 40i M sport. It’s better in most areas except that flap covering the wireless charging pad that opens in the center console. It feels very cheap and fiddly and does not work seamlessly. Another very minor gripe I had was the gear stick. Does not feel as natural as the earlier iterations of the gear lever but felt big and clunky

The drive was very similar to my F15 which is slightly floaty but driver focused and confidence inspiring. Not sure what the reviewers meant by the G05 being completely different dynamically.

The interior quality is in a different league. Rich quality materials which felt very pleasant to the touch. Also you can get one very nicely equipped for about 66K. Taking inflation into account, this is about 15% cheaper than the equivalent F15 in 2013.

The exterior design is nice, but it feels like it’s more familial to the X3 than the last generation. Seeing both in the wild you may have to do a double take from the side/ front 3/4s. The rear is nice but generic and I get the complaints of forum members for the lights being too uninspiring. They are nice mind you but not as distinctive ‘X5’ that the last three generations have had.

I also don’t like the headlights in real life. In pictures they look very proportional but in real life they are massive, about 25% bigger than the F15; which were huge themselves. I wish they were as ‘delicate’ as the E70.

Overall though, visually and in terms of tactile feel, it’s a step up. However I did not get the sense that I must have one like I had when the F15 came out. Maybe it grows on me over the next few months. Time will tell

Does it float and bounce? In the F15 my other half and I got car sick on the motorway to the extent that we had to drive it in sport.

Honestly, I barely felt that in my F15. There were times that it would pitch and yaw a little but nothing that felt unnatural. I had 19’ run flats. What were you running? I believe the G 05 M sport had 21s?

Looking at the X7 then coming back to this car emphasizes how weak the rear end of the X5 is to me. I hope BMW does more with it come MCI time. It looks fine but I know BMW could do better.

On tastes there is nothing written
Always as a brand you want the car you just designed to be the best in all aspects, including trying to please hundreds of thousands of people like you and me with such different tastes, since for me it is perfect as is.

Two days ago the G05 arrived at my dealer and today I took a look at the car!

Exterior:
The car looks bold in photos with HDR range but in person it's less dramatic and looks familiar if you have seen the G01 X3. It's a very BMW-safe design: Boxy with angular creases in the right places. However it lacks an element of surprise and glamour and that really came across when the one I spotted outside didn't standout amongst older BMW model. There are no exterior details worth talking about.

I consider it spec sensitive and would add glamour with an X-Line trim, black or deep sea blue paint and multi spoke alloys. Alternatively M-Sport in pearl white with black alloys.

Interior:
Rarely can this be said about any car but the interior is perfect. Yes, perfect.

The design is progressive but yet welcoming, and occupy the nice middle ground between Audi's new clinical interior design language and Mercedes more baroque approach.

Put your finger on major areas of the interior and you won't find a single piece or hard plastic. The solidity of the interior is on the same level as the 7-Series. You can't say the something about the G30 5-Series - even when equipped with full kappa leather. BMW's new touch screen is large enough and I like the wide screen format over letterbox touch screen. Despite the new tech there are physical buttons and shortcuts that surprisingly don't make the interior feel cluttered.

Honestly, it puts the interior of the 8-Series to shame and is IMO a benchmarking achievement from a design, ambiance, tech-friendliness and quality point of view. Bravo BMW!
