X5 [Official] BMW X5 (G05)

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
^^^ More like the rims of the M5 suck ;)

And that is a very shiny M550i vs low res crappy M5 photo

Apparently in BMWs marketing speak they are so different from the regulars cars they deserve their own model codes.

I get that, but why F for M cars and G for mainstream? I'd figure all these cars would be G gen. For example the 3er is F30 and and the M3 is an F80, but the F90 is the M5 and the G30 is the 5er while the X5M designated as F95 and the X5 is G05.

As I am typing this, I remember reading something awhile back and, if my memory serving me (and, guys, it often does not), with the M5/5er there was such an extensive work done on the M5 due to its AWD system, that they started off with the M5 first then the 5er thereafter, hence the codes being what they are. I can somewhat understand that. But what gives with the other cars? Are they now developing M cars earlier than their more mainstream brethren and that's how they are now doing it?

I know it's silly and off-topic (sorry, guys.) but this has irritated my OCD tendencies for awhile now.

Can't be right, because there is no way they started development of the F95 (= G05 X5 M) before the G11 7er.

Let the OCD continue
I think like grammar, it doesn't have to make any sense. It just is the way it is. It used to make sense, but imo that stopped with with E gen (E90 I suppose)

That's uber cool.

It has so many of these small details, like the trunk cover the fully and automatically folds into the floor when you fold away the rear seats.
Or the emergency LED flash when you open the doors.
Or the active anti slip strips in the trunk.
Or the heated OR cooled cupholders with blue and red LEDs.

So freakin complete.

heated OR cooled cupholders ? That must be the brightest idea anyobe had. Is it new ?

Or the emergency LED flash when you open the doors.

Lol. Those just flashed because he used the comfort access system to unlock the door after being granted access to the car's system with the digital key. This is just like unlocking your iphone but not actually progressing to the main menu.

No, they actually flash as well when you exit the car. Particularly useful at night for other traffic, which it is meant for I believe.

Ugh really? I assume/hope that's something you could turn off.

EDIT: Just read more about this- I see something about a "Dynamic Interior Light" but nothing about the outside hazard flashers when it comes to door exits. That sounds more tolerable.

With all the tech on the new X5 I do wonder how heavy it will be compared to the F15, they seem to have thrown everything at it.
