X5 [Official] BMW X5 (G05)

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.

Makes me wonder how they are going to up the ante in the upcoming X7 and F/L 7er because that interior is flagship level, IMO. There are some misgivings I have with the exterior still....mainly, the front and rear lights and that grille. I've somewhat come to terms with those exterior details but do wonder what could have been. But I'd overlook all that because I think BMW did a magnificent job with the interior. They've improved or updated what needed to be improved or updated and left the good stuff alone.

The center vents and HVAC and audio controls look like a sad robot though.

Exactly what I thought, but from what we've seen from the spy shorts, the X7 could possibly have a mere exact or close to identical interior with the current X5.

And with the Facelift 7er (flagship), and with the arrived, and arriving of X5,X6,X7,Z4,8er and upcoming 3er where all of them carries the new language of interior design, quality etc. for BMW, meaning it will leave the 7er which supposedly have to be the flagship of the whole line up to carried one of the most dated interior design language, material used, etc.
So I hope there will be a significant change on the facelift 7er's interior too.

Tell that to N63 engine owners.

Yeah, my 650 drank engine oil like a mad man. With highway commutes I’d get the “low oil” warning on my idrive screen every 2k miles or so. My dealer said it’s perfectly normal to comsume that much oil.

I wonder how real-world consumption is with the latest iteration on the engine, especially with significant power increase? Starting with N63TU2 found in G12, BMW changed the piston ring design.

@Merc1 ; once I sensed an issue with the valve stem seals at 75,000 miles it was time to abandon ship. There are many horror stories on the BMW forums.

....because of that if they manage to beat the X5’s interior they’ll be serious about taking on the likes of the Range Rover with the X7.

There's still some room for some more shiny parts. ;) And for additional & bigger trim inserts. And better leather. And better, fancier seats - with more controls & features (especially the rear ones).

But as you can see ... the general layout & design language will be applied across the portfolio. BMW interior design will be much more unified than today. We are approaching pre-Bangle levels.

Guys guys slow down with the technical parts, otherwise our bad boy JBML or whatever won’t be able to follow and keeps calling it an old engine...

@tomazino and @EnI
I think you’re right in the end with the 12.3” central screen in the Z4, because the X5 has two 12.3” screens. The 8er likely is the exception because of the vertical design of the console..
You’re calling it a new engine (which it isn’t) but you have the memory of a goldfish - since you said developing new ICE engines such as the new inline 6’s from MB, in the day of electrification and downsizing, was a waste of time. So with this reminder, I bet you will now defend this is not a newly developed engine LOL! I will eat you for breakfast every time fanboy!

BMW and Me = DONE.

As there are issues with others. For example TFSI, MB V6 M272 etc.

Of course, some cases are equally as bad or worse. The N63 was specially brought up, and thus I was reflecting upon my ownership experience with the engine, which is still in service... now as the N63B44TU3.

Certain engine components in modern cars coincidentally start to wear prematurely (compared to the past) after the typical new car lease period is terminated.

It is not specific for one brand, although one would aspect BMW is "the engine company" and the problems should't have occurred and for more would have been solved appropriate to a "premium" car brand.

What also counts for me is how the brand and dealer is dealing with problems. Denie or solve.

It never fails as to how pathetic the comments become when the same few BMW fanboys don't like what you say about their prized brand. Also I guess real world experience is now "drama". Says so much about the participants here.

Whatever...

@Merc1: my 3rd "50i" from NA to turbocharged in 10 years and no single problem with any of them, maybe i can say for turbocharged ones that are a bit oil thirsty, but... You need to oil those cylinders to make them move, right? :D

Whatever is right because you telling me your story doesn't change mine does it? NO. As if an old naturally aspirated V8 from another era has anything to do with the engine in question here. There is no "maybe" about the turbo V8s being thirsty, it's a fact. What I don't get is why a different experience from yours bothers you so much. I would say that a car with an engine that has now suffered from 3 cylinder misfires in less than 55K miles is pretty dramatic. A dramatic failure in durability/reliability.

Really? Did i sound so? Well, sorry for that, but it wasn't my intention... Just shared experience with you...:t-hands:

Whatever... :D

I agree, very dramatic, but no cases like that over here or from my own experience, so i'd not generalize... :) Still understand your disappointment, it's an expenisve car though and it should serve you well...
