X5 [Official] BMW X5 (F15)

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
Here in this BMW F15 thread.........I do not see a bunch of red x disagrees or dislikes. Neither do i see accused for being BMW fanboy members acting all crazy about negative posts and opinions about the F15. I think its fab! I like every aspect of it. And yet why?:
Go try and opinionate yourself in the W222 thread, you will be stoned like in the medevel times...;)

Maybe it's because the general consensus is that the S-Class is pretty much a "home run"? The F15 X5 IS growing on me but I can see why it's not universally liked.

^i for one don't think the W222 is really that much of a home run or perfect, and yet every single slight negative comment about the W222 in the W222 thread, it just gets attacked, big time.

imo i think the front is OK but towards the rear it's just wrong, it's too soft, too un-aggressive. that wrap-around rear windscreen looks mighty crap, totally unnecessary and sometimes you just wonder why they do something like this.

You're a know MB hater that's why.

When I saw the black thingies on side of rear windshield what BMW calls "Aero blades" on F15, the design element looked very familiar. Today I saw a Honda Odyssey driving home with the Aero blades and now know where I had seen and what inspired the BMW engineers. :) . ;)

Hi
What gets to me is not the individualized opinionated factual, fictional or fanboy posts or generalisations of any and all.
No, my fellow memebers it's how much is tolerated by some in certain threads. (I exclude GCF Staff in "some")

Here in this BMW F15 thread everyone is allowed their generelized opinions, I do not see a bunch of red x disagrees or dislikes. Neither do i see accused for being BMW fanboy members acting all crazy about negative posts and opinions about the F15. I think its fab! I like every aspect of it. And yet why?:

That gets me, really it does and i do not understand what the hell is wrong these days...O'well whatever.

Edit:
I drove a new Porsche Cayenne S V8 Diesel the past weekend. My company warehouse supervisors brother-in-law came to visit, I was told about the new Porsche and that after a 4 month wait he got it the week earlier. So Friday afternoon I asked that if (and they should not go out of their way) they can come and show me the Cayenne. I was still in my payamas when my phone rang Saturday morning, they were on the way! I brushed my teeth, got some clothes and a cap on my head and they arrived at 8am.
The car has lots of extras, including PASM on steel springs. Ride is firm/hard even in comfort mode, cabin has some fine rattles (it is brand new) and it has THE ugliest ass in the business, also there are trim in hidden areas I do not like. So then, the F15 looks as if it is going to be what I see and that is just awesome!

It will be another great X5, rest assured(y)

Hi naas, aside from those concerns (which worry me - I had my heart set on one), did you get to drive it?? I believe it is awesome and porsche has the highest build quality of all the Germans, so maybe the rattles were unique to this model? Would it be possible for you to pm me the guys number so I can chat to him about the car before I place an order? Completely understand if you're not comfortable with this..

"Aero blades" yet more marketing BS from BMW's spin doctors. These drag reducing components have been around for years now.[/quote]

Yes, I did drive it myself on the newly constructed N5 and in town. Honestly it does not drive really any 'firmer' than my X6 and the same soft "trrrr" over uneven surfaces I experienced in all BMW's from certain (why always coming from the back of the cars?) and sometimes the door drim, I experienced in the Porsche my expectations may be unrealistic (heck maybe a new RR-Ghost will do the same?). So maybe its just me and me being a pain to myself. I mean there are so many things that can give-off noise. When you play your favourite tune over those Bose-fitted sound system in the Cayenne S V8 Diesel, you hear nothing of such nature. Also, my man, that engine and PDK is out-of-this world!
Regarding his details I will ask, never hurts asking does it?:) I only met him for the first time this past Saturday morning, very nice and pleasant build contractor from Pretoria - Gauteng he is! He came to my house, I got to drive his brand new baby and he made my weekend, you gotta love a real car guy(y)

He thinks the Cayenne is the best thing ever made and his previous car was a F01! And he got into the Porsche by chance. His son took him to Porsche Center JNB. When they told him the good news of Cayenne's being less expensive than his F01 and on par with E70's he decided then and there it's time!

The laws of aerodynamics are the same for all companies.

Oh please, stop it already will you?
Every manufacturer says things like that, it is NOT typical BMW marketing..
Where does it even say BMW invented it for the F15?!? Because they don't say that.

Keep focusing it it though
'BMW spin doctors'... lol give me a break, this aint no soap opera...rolls_eyez
And besides, BMW does not have to spin anything. Everything's transparant and going well.

Naas, thank you so much for that review - my faith is restored! Don't worry about contacting him if you just met him; I thought he might be an old friend. I am really looking forward to the facelift of the Cayenne. I think the subtle treatment to the rear design will work wonders. It's the only design element I don't love about the Cayenne. So pleased to hear you were impressed with the engine :-)

Yeah sure if you ask nicely, and then I might consider it.

There is no useful reason to give these ordinary aerodynamic trim specific names. Yes other manufacturers have been doing the same, that is why I stopped reading most of the press release 'information' a while ago.

Obviously I did not say anything negative about his new car. There is nothing to gripe about, it's a brilliant piece of kit and a Porsche @ that. Just made me feel better that Porsche's also has tiny little niggles:D I will get his details and PM you, he is a great guy with a personality to boot! You have to meet-up with him IMO.

EDIT: I send you PM about his/the details James(y)

Hehe, that was nice ;) please and all you know
There is no useful reason for this forum to constantly bash 'BMW marketing' all the time. I swear to God this didn't happen before Scott joined!

There is, however and quite obviously, a useful reason to highlight a certain technical solution on a vehicle. How hideous I personally find this 'feature' and it's stupid name is not that important.

Oh indeed I agree that in most cases and new launches (especially BMW-brand designs) will not be universally liked, it's a given hence the diversity in what people buy and GCF's member profile for starters. My point being that as great a car and techno marvel the new W222 is, I am not fond of many design aspects and pieces. That said I am not going to become the irritation and despise of M-B fans, contributing members and online staff that moderates the site. One can nitpick at all sorts of BS and disrupt a good thread for what!? Yet in the BMW threads 'that' trend has become second nature IMO.

While my original purpose is not to 'bash' BMW marketing, I do think it is beneficial for people to know the proper name. As an engineer, I do prefer to call things as it is, in this case, they are air flow conditioner.

No, I wasn't meaning you in specific. I kow you don't do it to troll. And you're absolutely right, even, I wish more people named things as they are.

How is it marketing to call thing by their function? these blades do bring aerodynamical benefits.
It's unbelievable how some people loose their nerves and start pages-long discussions about totally irrelevant stuff, like how things are called. So what if they call these "black thingies on side of rear windshield" ,as they were already reffered to, Aero Blades? and what if they called the new 3coupe a 4? or a CLS a 4door coupe? What does that change? and who the funk cares anyway?

Focus, people!.. some things are more important that others.
These discussions are making the Forum unreadable lately..

I salute you! Seems someone spotted the threads turning into "old ladies with wet bloomers" syndrome. :D(y)

IMO your post covers so many aspects that has so many threads going south. And I am not targeting anyone specific nor any individual(s), lets be clear about that, just is what it is and how it turns out to be in many threads;)

This is exactly what I am talking about, people get mislead by the name. These extensions works with the roof spoiler as an entire system, these things won't do much good by itself.

In this forum, we try to provide the most accurate information possible, we do care about these technical features of any vehicle.

People can discuss whatever they want as long as it is within forum guidelines. You can try to change the direction of the discussions or you can chose to ignore it completely. Just because you do not care it doesn't mean others will agree with you.
