But it has the same rear lightsM4 DTM is about 0% M4. Bespoke V8, bespoke safety cell, bespoke mountings, bespoke suspension, bespoke body panels.... etc.
These days you have the M550i xDrive which is 95% of the M5, with the same engine configuration, 95% the same looks, but 60% the price.
That's fine, but in those days there wasn't a very similar performance regular BMW snapping at its heels. These days you have the M550i xDrive which is 95% of the M5, with the same engine configuration, 95% the same looks, but 60% the price. The M5 should have more distinction from the lesser models IMHO.

I'm not sure I agree with that. As an M4 owner, I doubt that if you traded down to a 440i you would call it a small 5% loss.
And yet, it's that 5% which makes the biggest difference.
[BTW, not to split hairs, but I reckon the difference is rather more than 5% between an M550i xDrive and an M5.]
When @Lupusmajor referred to the "M4 DTM", I assumed he was talking about the M4 DTM Champion Edition, which is a straight-six. It's essentially an M4 GTS with a different paint job...
You are right. I had I mind BMW M4 DTM racing car. But it's was a JOKE (sarcasem). Because when someone say that M5 is the same car as M550xdrive, you can also say that M4 DTM is the same car as M4.Fair enough, I'd assumed he meant the M4 DTM racing car as I'd have thought that stating M4 GTS or even CS would effectively be a more obvious example if he meant the M4 DTM Champion Edition. I shall reclaim my stuck in oar, and leave you to it![]()

Because when someone say that M5 is the same car as M550xdrive, you can also say that M4 DTM is the same car as M4.I know that M5 isn't so special anymore as used to be (I'm also sad because of that). But definitely is not the same car as M550i xdrive. Now we are living in different period of time. Now the software is more important as hardware (sadly )and you can do a lot of things with a software. And I'm pretty sure that more as 40% parts of BMW M5 are different to those in BMW M550i xdrive.
P.S Sorry for my English. But I never learned English in my life. That's way I make a lot of mistakes.

Comone.95%. Soory. Big difference.I never said it was THE SAME. Don't put words in my mouth.
And even if it was a joke, the M4 DTM has no relevance to what I said, as I was comparing an M car with a regular BMW, not two different M cars, one of which is a very limited production track special.
Agree! All the had to do was paint the wheel in that lovely M anthracite colour (like on E39) and it would look a whole lot better. This is a bit too Spiderman emblem for my tastes. That black middle part of the M5 rim is so....![]()

Would have been nicer if F90 M5 opt for wider rear wheel than 285 with flared rear fender. The rear quarter panel view looked too modest.
We know it's been mentioned many times in this threadWe've been over this several times already, but that's not the M5's thing. The M5's thing is stealth.
