The BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid sports car developed by BMW. The i8 was part of BMW's electrified fleet and was marketed under the BMW i sub-brand. The production version of the BMW i8 was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and was released in Germany in June 2014. Deliveries to retail customers in the U.S. began in August 2014. A roadster variant was launched in May 2018. Production ended in June 2020.

Lovely, lovely pics. Though I'd rather the focus be place on all the other interesting Bimmers rather than the i8, but that's me being overly picky.

Ok found some clearer photos, perhaps a mod can make these into a separate thread? or not.

Thanks, a "first time" is always good. I have never seen it so clearly, it seems to be what derived the Z3 from, but much bigger as they planned a Z5, or a discarded Z8, except for some details a little out of place, in general, it's cool

You would never have arrived at the “Neue-Klasse” without the BMW i8.

Exzellent Video from Jason Cammisa.

I can certainly understand why you like it.

One thing that stands out to me though, are his comments about the SGL investment and his premise that the i3 and i8 used Carbon Fibre because Suzanne Klatten had a stake in SGL. I'm calling BS on that. E1, E2, Z13, Z22 and Z29 all clearly demonstrated - years prior to Project-i - that BMW believed plastic, CFRP and CFRP on Aluminium were likely the best way forward, and as such carrying that idea over to the MCV concept was inevitable.

At very least the MCV was publicly hinted at in 2007, 2 years before SKion invested in SGL. At that point - if the use of Carbon Fibre hadn't already been locked in, it was almost definitely in the final stages.

It seems most likely to me that knowing BMW were forming a JV with, or at least working with SGL for up to 2 years prior was why Klatten took her own stake in SGL, rather than taking a stake and then giving BMW 6 months to come up with the product AND form the JV.

I do agree with him on one thing though... the optimum Mega City Vehicle is the subway.
