Your Touring is fantastic 340i xDrive?

Damn, because I've only seen a couple and the classifieds are NiL... And I can't afford a brand new one. Apparently it's only available in m sport trims

Ok so its been a eventfull day for me when it comes to cars, first i had the new E class to sample for a few hours (read about it in the E class thread) and then a friend of mine had a loaner BMW 320d 2016 it had like 2K km on the clock. So i had that for 1-2 hours.

Sidenote: I know that my words will be taken for shit, as its the artist talking crap about BMW again, but hey someone might find something interesting in my impressions..so here goes nothing.

It was a white car with sportline package, LED lights and some other goodies like keyless go and so on.

First of all i don't like the looks its amazingly boring looking, but that just personal.
The next thing that struck me is how loud the engine is at idle, sounds like a tractor, and i think my W212 E 220d is pretty lousy at idle, but this was a new level, maybe has to do with less insulation as its a lesser car.
Opened the bonnet and the engine block vibrates like a scared hamster..

On to the next thing, sat in the rear, pretty good space for the class, but exit and entry out the back is pathetic and also the front btw, like all BMWs its a hastle to get in and out of, maybe i need to loose a few pounds and do yoga more.:D

The rear airvents, armrest and overall quality of the cloth is so bad, its better in a VW..and i started second guessing myself on how old this car really is.. until i check now that its 4 years old with 2 more to go.. Let¨s just say that they have their hands full for the next generation, this is not OK!.

Upfront it is the same, same old 90s buttons for the windows, lousy quality, shit load of plastic, you could push the panels and hear squeeks, also the roof light system, when pressed the whole fabric of the roof dents.. its just crap to be honest.

The screen and the bezel around it ( standard screen) is just crap, black matt plastic.

The i drive knob is moved to the side and i don't get the postioning you have to tilt your arm, very awkward to me. I guess you get used to it.

I drive itself is much more understandable now than the first gen, and rapid enough, UI is behind, boring design of menus and so on, but i guess this is already adressed in the 7er and should trickle down to the new Gen 3er,, but thats in 2 years.

Now to the big whoa, the steering wheel, i have never in my life held a stering wheel this HARD, its so stiff and numb, you can press it with all the force in your hand, it doesent budge a millimeter.
Its like its made out of solid wood, with some wierd kind of harsh feeling fake leather on it..
By FAR the worst steeringwheel ive experienced ever, my 1979 W123 had a better steeringwheel than this.. Skodas have a better stering wheel .. hell my gf¨s KIA cee'd even.

Now to the driving..
The steering feel is pathetic, it feels like a gaming steering, you are totally dissconected to the front wheels, it does what you want it to, but that BMW feeling is GONE.

That ZF transmission is a GEM.. lovely, shifts rapidly and smoothly.

The engine is great, the car feels rapid for a 4pot diesel, but after driving the E class it felt faster but wasen't, i checked full throttle on the same road up to the turn, and i was doing 120 in the E class 110ish in the 3er, but it has a sensation of speed atleast. So it felt great the BMW in that sense.

Breaks were brutal..very good

But when you push it through corners it felt like half the car, from behind my back was a BMW, and the front was something totally different. I think its down to the steering.. the front wheels don't feed back through the steering, so it feels like a game.

I changed modes to sport plus ( btw that little screen in the instrument cluster is a joke, looks like a casio calculator screen from the 80s..) the steering just got heavier, thats what it felt like atleast, maybe i was imagining it.. but it did not solve the problem of the numb feeling.

Comfort wise its just not there, its bumpy and there is alot of engine/road/wind sound.
Its uncomfy yet not sporty, atleast in previous generations it was uncomfy but it was so sporty and a joy to drive fast..that's gone now.. and the bad remained. Sad really.

Finally i feel that BMW really needs to up their game on all levels to match the competition next time around. This car, due to the fast pace of digitalisiation feels so old, it feels so yesterday its amazing.
I could not belive my eyes that this is what you get today when you go in and order a brand new 3er.
If it were so that it was on its last breath like the 5er, i would not have complained, but this still has 2 more years to go. I belive they will be some tough years for this car.

Positive: Engine and gearbox
Negative: everything else.

I give it 2.5 out of 5..

BMW you can do better! Stop being cheap and stingy for f sake! Your cars cost enough so you can treat your customers to something special!

PS
The little calculator trip screen, its at the bottom of the dash, so i can't see it as the steering wheel is in the way, i adjust the steering wheel to see it, then i can't see the top of the speedo or the rev counter.. i lower the seat and raise it.. Finally i found something middle ground where i had a couple of millimeters of view cut out by the steering wheel both at the top and bottom of the cluster. I wonder if someone checks these cars of ergonomics at all?

I think I am going to buy a 2016 BMW 320d tomorrow based/because on/of your opinion.
I knew someone would find it usual.. im pleased..

post pictures when you get it:D..

And don't forget to buy this to soften up your steeringwheel
