A7/S7/RS7 Official: Audi A7

Porsche are insisting it isn't because of obvious reasons, but ask anyone in Audi and you will hear the truth.
Sorry, I am not aware of any discussions on websites or forums or questions from any journalists questioning or investigating the relationship between the A7 and the Panamera. Is there any reason why Audi would use Panamera's platform instead of the A6 for the A7?

I can only tell you that this is what we were told.

Audi is insisting it is, because of obvious reasons, but ask anyone in Porsche and you will hear the truth. :D

Really, this can't too hard to find out? Right? Either it is the same platform, or it isn't.

As more information trickle out, I'm sure VW seniors will be interviewed about the relationship between the two cars and facts about components shared will be out.

What we were told was it was a join development between VW/Audi and Porsche, how much was Porsche and how much was VAG is debatable, my guess is Porsche did the bulk of the work as was the case with the Cayenne/Touareg/Q7. There's little doubt that dimensions would suggest the two cars share a lot in common so it's my opinion there is truth in their statement.

Panamera vs A7

Wheelbase : 2920mm vs 2913mm
Length : 4970mm vs 4969mm
Height : 1418mm vs 1410mm
Width : 1931mm vs 1910mm
F/Track : 1658mm vs 1641mm
R/Track : 1662mm vs 1632mm

I'm going to start with a few questions.

1. Who is we?
2. Who told you these things
3. Why did he only tell you that it was a joint development, but didn't get into details that prove it?
4. Why are you stating something that is completely ungrounded (you only say "we were told" and then you guess something else?

Such posts are completely worthless and derail the thread. You do NOT have any valid arguments and you ask us to believe what you say, because you were told so. Such posts, that contain unfounded statements provoke other members to prove you wrong, and sometimes with not good manners. This is, also, considered by many members of this community as trolling.

Please, continue with valid arguments and better posts, or your future here is quite uncertain.

Also, I would like to ask everyone, not to deal with such posts in public, but report them and the moderation team will deal with them. Let's not get any more threads off-topic or locked. Thank you.

And to put an end to where the A7 originates from, please read the A7 press release.

:t-cheers:

One of us will have to make a call to Rupert Stadler OR are anyone well aquainted with the Piech family?

OR maybe Sayyaaf could get HRH Sheik's Khalifa or Mohammed to make a call to the above mentioned, they are definitely well aquainted with the Piech family...:D

Geez...what a debate this turned out to be!

You must have some special connection with Audi because even professional journalists don't get this kind of information. VW, Audi and Porsche made no secret about the fact that the Cayenne/Touareg/Q7 share the same platform. If the A7 and the Panamera shares the same platform, then why did Audi chose not to let anyone know about it. Even Mercedes admit to some extent the origin of the E class coupe.

Do you have any figure on the front over hang for the Porsche and Audi? The A7 might well be based on the Panamera, but I want to see more evidence.

Ok guys , I love you all, but some of attacks against footie is a little too far. For one, I always thought that footie is working for Audi or have a business that connects to VW/Audi. So why would he jeopardize his work/business to proof a debate over the internet. I think it is not worth it.

So I trust him for whoever he is, but it is no holy book either. Although he could be a little biased sometimes but who isn't.

Sorry to all, I don't mean to offent anyone here but I really would feel a little bit insulted if I was asked to proof every single post in this forum.

Sorry again guys and no offense at anyone.

My theory is: Times changed. Well, thats what I think atleast. Why I think so? simple. When VW/Porsche were sharing platforms. VW had the upper hand since Porsche was barely in business and needed the Cayenne badly to save them (which proofed it was their savior) and VW wanted the publicitiy that their new SUV is codeveloped with Porsche AG, i.e the track masters.

Now with the Panamera things changed. Audi/VW are well established with their performance brands. So there is little need to reveal such secret product sharing among their ranges. It would even destroy Porsche's image knowing what Bentley's has been flamed for" rebranded VWs".

This is just my analysis and nothig based on facts here.

IMO Sayyaaf, you do not have to feel sorry. I mean what is the point of GCF?

Here we can discuss cars, German cars other cars and learn, debate, talk and get I.T. on and about the passions that drive us....CARS;)

We are all entitled to our opinions and have the right to ask questions and question what we hear, read and see on this forum. And if that is not the case then I myself do not have a clue on and about the term 'forum':t-hands:

ANY clod can have the facts; having opinions is an art AND a basic human right!

I'm ready to believe some Panamera related know-how was transfered from Porsche to Audi while developing A7 (or even Porsche using some Audi experience & knowledge @ Panamera development) but I don't think the platforms are identical. No way. The drive layout is different (RWD : FWD), the production location is different, ... Why producing identical platform of a low-volume cars on different locations??? That would completely defy the main purpose of using same platform: cutting cost.

First A7 in Spain goes for Jose Mourinho:

I think I jumped the gun regards to stating the two shared platforms (my bad) but they did share quite a bit during their developments, what exactly that was I don't know but like I said at the beginning (which started all of this) I was told the two cars share technologies and where co-developed, but I mistook this to mean using the same platform.

So what technologies exactly do they share?

Looks much better here, are the front and rear overhangs really that short?

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
