So now the user manual is circulating in the net. And thats good since AM wont give us the spec of the car.
First; «unladen mass» weight is stated as 1355 kg. I understand this is the same as kerb weight
If I am not mistaken, with about 85 litres in different fluids, the dry weight is about (1355 minus ~70) 1280 kg. Not bad, given the 1169 hp on tap, but also significantly over their intended dry weight. The only seemingly 'low' figure is 781 for total torque, which is sufficient, given the weight and the way the engine was designed to spin very fast from the get-go to help with agility and acceleration around corners as opposed to the pull on the straight line. This thing should drive blisteringly fast around any track.

It's available on main Aston Martin website anyway. It's public domain and knowledge.

They are ALL available in a multitude of languages.🙂

The more I hear about the customer cars the more compromised it seems, just like AMG One. Claimed stats are interesting. No more 250 mph (402 km/h top speed... More weight than anticipated.

Still, 1000hp on tap and a screaming redline. It still looks like an alien space ship.

I was thinking about both of these cars today and was struggling to think how in comparison McLaren Porsche and Ferrari got the Holy Trinity right albeit with some troubles along the way with their first generation hybrid hypercars.

And far more importantly how it was OVER a decade ago perhaps in some cases more where they started the pre production prototype processes.

I admire what Mercedes and Aston Martin have done massively but you wonder what the other three manufacturers are doing right now!

Have a read of this if you like and jot some of the numbers down. It's very much eye opening now never mind then in 2016!🙂

50 liter fuel tank…?!?! Will this be enough for a lap around Nürnburgring…?
5 l smaller than the already tiny AMG One tank, without electric-only range and with significantly worse fuel consumption.
Flat out, maybe 3–5 laps with a full tank.
Based on the WLTP (combined) fuel consumption, it has a range of ~200 km. At city speeds (WLTP low) just over half that.
WLTP low 45.7; WLTP medium 27.5; WLTP high 20.9; WLTP extra-high16.8; WLTP combined 24.1.
(l/100km)

Some random bits I found interesting from the manual:

The turning radius is 14 m, which is the same as that of the longest car in production, the Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB (6.09 m length, 3.82 m wheelbase). The manual also notes:
The front tyres may ‘skip’ at low speeds with summer tyres installed when a high level of steering lock is applied. This is a characteristic of the vehicle and does not affect the safety or performance of the vehicle.

Adrian Newey talked about how they had to get creative to stow emergency items that have to be on board by law, but didn't elaborate. The Valkyrie has a stowage compartment behind the front number plate for items like the first aid kit!

Something I hadn't read before is that the gearbox needs to be rebuilt after 50,000 km.

The HV battery can only be charged by driving. This doesn't sound great for a collector car that will not be driven regularly, if at all:
The HV battery is charged using the E-Motor by using excess engine power. There is no direct external charge point for the HV battery. If the HV battery is drained down to 0% the vehicle must be recovered to an Aston Martin Dealer
Dead (as in need to be replaced) HV batteries is a common issue with the old-generation hybrid supercars (LaFerrari, 918, P1) if they aren't regularly driven or kept plugged in. But at least those can be plugged in to prevent issues.

Unladen mass is (in the UK at least) with fluids, but without fuel or driver. So kerb weight would be 1392.5kg. So basically 1400kg as I've been saying for years (although, to be fair, that wasn't even my guess, just a guy familiar with the project leaking that).

What blows my mind is how Gordon Murrays shaves so much weight from his halo cars without sacrificing creature comforts. True engineering intelligence is irreplaceable.

To be honest mate I'm just going to wait for a final specifications customer ordered and delivered one that's going to be independently weighed by an authoritative outlet say Autocar or Evo Magazine.

The amount of, well to be civil "claims" I've heard whether someone saying 0-400km/h in "20" seconds or under and someone else "beating" it with a patently ludicrous "15.5" seconds just completely puts me off, absolutely, whether or not I Love those particular products and or manufacturers and or brands.

Everyone remembers the fiasco around the kerb weight one of the Holy Trinity members had. The remnants of those comments are spread through disparate communities everywhere.

My motto, where possible is, that's nice, now SHOW me! But alas sometimes even I succumb to it! A recent bloody Bugatti video LOL!🙂

It's almost as if there's a drive to try and reduce the range of ICE vehicles to that of EVs.

Fair enough. AM's official numbers are a bit disappointing for now––if not surprising to me too much, knowing how the project was hijacked from Newey. I remain optimistic about the lap times; if the One did what it did, this thing should be 3-5 seconds faster around the same track.

Yeah what an absolute damn shame. I heard so many uncorroborated stories over the years it was difficult to separate fact from fiction. So I to a degree stopped caring much.

To be honest Newey seems to have been well and truly stuffed, the design team at Gaydon had Myles plus I forget his name that tall guy. It seemed to many people were layered into the project.

Adrian has another go with the Red Bull Racing hybrid to come so we will see.

I'm tracking or watching the Aston Martin Valhalla and Lotus Evija and Gordon Murray Automotive T50 more now. Something a little closer to home, let's say a slight change from Bu, well you get it. But there's never enough time!🙂

I guess reducing fluids or fuel is one way of reducing weight but also killing the range too. I remember Aston Martin almost saying you could daily drive it, LOL! But all everyone wants to see is Valkyrie versus AMG One.

You'd think Mercedes has said no laps or no engines!🙂

not to mention rumour of Lawrence Stroll deciding to take some cost cutting shortcuts for a project that requires a lot of money to meet its targets

but then again, this wouldn't be the first time (or the last) corporate management screws over a technical project

Well that's just the way as I stated these corporations or mega corporations operate. The Directors sometimes do too much directing in area's they don't really sometimes know.

I have discussed this elsewhere in detail, but I think you are all being a bit too quick to put the blame on Stroll. Stroll only took over in 2020, while the car was supposed to come out in 2018. If the project didn't go sideways in the first place, and it came out on time, then Stroll wouldn't have even had the chance to do anything. The fact is that AM and RB had no clue what they were doing and f#cked it all up even before Stroll got anywhere near it. The most of the blame has to go to them. Stroll probably just delivered the final nail.

Also, before someone mentions Newey - yeah, Newey is a genius engineer, no doubt about that, but the problem is that all he's ever done his whole career is single seaters. His career basically goes F1 (while still in university) -> Indycar -> F1 until now. He's never done anything else. So while I don't doubt that he could design a spectacularly fast car (and there sure are signs of that in the Valkyrie), I also suspect that he might be too uncompromising and perfectionist to allow for that bit of leeway that you need with a road legal car that has to be made in big numbers (compared to race cars at least). The current problem the car STILL faces - the engine bay being too cramped and stuff overheating - is probably mainly the result of him trying to pack everything into the tightest space possible for best aerodynamics and not willing to sacrifice even 5% of performance. Which in some ways is commendable, but then when there are problems and some stuff doesn't work out exactly as you planned, you are suddenly in big trouble because you can't keep changing and improving components every five minutes like you can in F1.

A cameo by chassis 70/150.
