Two months ago, Aston Martin had to bid farewell to the DB9 in order to make room for its much-awaited replacement, the all-new DB11. Production of the gorgeous coupe has kicked off today at the factory in Gaydon and we already know the first 1,000 cars are going to be inspected by none other than Andy Palmer, President and CEO of the company. Deliveries for U.K. customers are scheduled to begin next month, with clients from other areas of the world to follow shortly.

The DB11 represents Aston Martin’s first new model part of the “Second Century Plan” and will be followed by six additional models scheduled to be launched in the next seven years. One of them is going to be a production variant of the DBX concept programmed to hit the streets in 2019 and serve as the brand’s first ever crossover. Unlike the new DB11, the high-riding Aston won’t be put together at home in Gaydon as it’s going to be manufactured at a new plant in Wales following an investment of £200 million (about $260M).

Getting back to the DB11, Aston Martin says it has already received more than 3,000 orders since the model’s world premiere back in March at the Geneva Motor Show. The DB11 will lose its fixed metal roof to get an electrically-retractable soft top in the spring of 2018 when the DB11 Volante (pictured below) will be launched.

As far as the other models in the pipeline, we already know Aston Martin has teamed up with Red Bull to work on a hypercar of which only 99 units are ever going to be made. Deliveries of the “AM-RB001” are pinned for 2019 and each car will cost in excess of $1.3 million.

Further down the line, a mid-engined V8 supercar is expected to go on sale in 2022, while the “Lagonda” name is set to make a comeback on a series of more luxurious cars. Meanwhile, basically all of the existing models will be replaced in the years to come.

This car just doesn't move me like the previous gen Aston Martins, those cars were much more beautiful in my eyes than this car.

I agree. 3,000 orders isn't exactly a runaway success given that more than 6,000 orders have been placed for the Bentley Bentyga. For a like-for-like comparison Bentley sold 6,213 Continental GTs in 2015.

That side profile...those air vents at the front wheel arch. The whole design doesn't sit quite right on the car. It is quite rare to get the design of a big front engine rear wheel drive coupe wrong, but Aston managed.

I've got the feeling that it's not the most photogenic of cars but in the metal it's going to be very visually arresting and - yes - still beautiful.

I think that there's actually a fairly simple way for Aston to address the visual malaise associated with the front wheel arch fender vent:

I feel that if they colour code the inside leading edge of the vent in the body colour then this would improve this visually weak (my humble opinion) aspect.
So, calling photoshoppers over here - please give it a bash and let's see what it looks like.

The DB11 is very colour-scheme sensitive too - you have to be careful with how you spec the car - and it seems to look its best with an all-black roof.

Edit: I have attached a thumbnail showing the wheel arch vent better.

I think in metal it should look much better, probably quite gorgeus. This to me is one of those cars, who look better in real life than in pictures...

I like it - but (stuck record here, sorry) that front wheel arch vent is this car's major styling issue. It causes a visual impression that the front wheel has dropped away from the wheel arch.
Aston would be well-advised to rework that front wing - it looks unfinished.

I would "so love to love" the DB 11, but I simply can't.

Perhaps the Vanquish is just too damn beautiful.

I have very nices shots from this DB 11 testing with a support Mercedes C 63 AMG S...

This aero blade is over played. It is good that Aston is finally paying more attention to the aero dynamic efficiency of their cars but it isn't a innovate concept that needs to be reminded every time when the DB 11 is mentioned.

The only hope for this design, IMO is the Volante version.

How bizarre. The DB 11 seems to become increasingly unattractive with each passing photoshoot. A big fan of all "modern" Aston Martins from the DB 7 through the current Vanquish, I simply cannot seem to understand how A-Ms' design team dropped the ball so dramatically.
