Viper [Official] 2016 Dodge Viper ACR unleashed with 645 bhp

The Dodge Viper is a sports car that was manufactured by Dodge (by SRT for 2013 and 2014), a division of American car manufacturer Chrysler from 1992 until 2017, having taken a brief hiatus in 2007 and from 2011 to 2012.
What we've learned from racing Vipers all these years is that, of course, aerodynamics is king!

It just crushes the car into the ground, it crushes the tires into the ground without having the tires carrying any more load to turn an heavy car

2017 Dodge Viper GTS-R Sets Unofficial 7:03.45 Lap Time in First Nurburgring Attempt

A crowdfunded effort by independent Viper devotees brought the American sports car to the 'Ring with Dominik Farnbacher at the wheel.

A crowdfunding-powered privateer effort has done what Dodge never officially attempted to do: Set a Nurburgring lap time in the soon-to-be-discontinued fifth-generation Viper. With professional racer Dominik Farnbacher at the wheel, a brand-new, bone-stock Viper GTS-R just set a 7:03.45 lap time at the famed German track. This was the first traffic-free timed lap on a dry track for the Viper.

The Viper 'Ring Record Run powered by Kumho and co-sponsored by Prefix brought two brand-new, bone-stock 2017 Vipers in GTS-R spec to the famed German racetrack. Funded largely by private donations from individual Viper enthusiasts, and utilizing cars straight off the showroom floor of Texas dealership Viper Exchange, the effort marks the first Nurburgring lap record attempt in the current fifth-generation model.

Farnbacher, the driver who set today's lap time, was the man at the wheel for the Viper's last Nurburgring record attempt in 2011. Back then, Farnbacher drove a factory-backed fourth-generation Viper ACR to a 7:12.13 lap time.

Since the introduction of the current-generation Viper, Dodge has refused to return to the 'Ring to pursue a new lap time, opting instead to claim production-car lap records at 13 road courses in the United States. But with production of the American sports car set to end later this year, a private group of die-hard Viper enthusiasts raised money through crowdfunding, sponsorship, and private donations to bring the car to Germany for one last crack at the 'Ring.

It wasn't easy: the privateers originally scheduled one hour of closed-track lap time on Monday, July 24th, to attempt to set a lap time. But heavy rains all day scuttled those plans, leaving the team only able to practice during open lapping sessions with significant traffic, often under wet, rainy conditions. When a brief window of track time became available this afternoon, the team scrambled into action.

Road & Track has been traveling with the privateer Viper team in Germany all week. The lap time was set on brand-new, stock, street-legal Kumho Ecsta V720 tires (295/25 front, 355/30 rear on factory 19-inch wheels) supplied by Kumho, a sponsor of the attempt. And this is only the first lap attempt: the team plans to go for another flying lap later this week.

We went to the shop today to visit our hurt friend and managed to download this from its video / data recorder. You'll notice several spots where the tranny resisted between second and third gears. That alone cost us 2 seconds (we didn't have any more spare transmissions). This was Lance's FIRST HOT LAP. Time and money. If we had a little more...... Again, Viper Nation, THANK YOU.

7.01 is pretty impressive, but looking at this car with all its down force and that power output it could probably have dipped below 7min if they had enough time on the track with perfect weather conditions

New Dodge Viper Rumored For Launch In 2020 With Around 550 HP

went out of production last summer and chances of a return seemed slim as the Viper’s home – the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant – is being transformed into an internal meeting and display space for showcasing concepts and historic vehicles.

Fans never gave up hope that the Viper could be reborn and rumors have occasionally hinted at the possibility. Car and Driver is the latest to say the Viper is making a comeback and they suggest the car could be launched in late 2020.

Little is known about the next-generation Viper but the publication says the car will ride on a spaceframe platform and make extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber. The report also says the Viper will retain its classic shape and initially be launched as a roadster. A coupe will then join the lineup a few years later.

While the Viper will look the part, it will be missing one of its defining characteristics. A V10 engine has powered the snake since the beginning but the new car will reportedly have a naturally aspirated V8 engine. Nothing is official but the publication speculates the base model will produce around 550 hp (410 kW / 557 PS). Additional engines are expected in the future and one of them will reportedly be a second-generation Hellcat V8 developing more than 700 hp (522 kW / 710 PS).

The car is expected to be offered with a manual transmission and there will likely be a “hard-core road racer” sometime in the future.

If everything pans out, the next-generation Viper could debut at 2019 North American International Auto Show to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original Viper concept. The car would go on sale about a year and a half later and speculation suggests it could cost around $90,000.
