Audi AG and Eminem's Eight Mile Style LL.C. Reach Settlement Agreement

"Eight Mile Style LL.C. („Eight Mile”) and AUDI AG (“Audi”) today jointly announced that they have entered into an Agreement ending all legal disputes between the two companies over the allegations that Audi has made unauthorized use of the musical work “Lose Yourself” in a video shown at the presentation of the new model “Audi A6 Avant” in Berlin on May 18, 2011.

In commenting on the Settlement Agreement, a spokesperson for Audi said, “Audi has tremendous respect for Eminem and his works, and likewise for the “Imported From Detroit” campaign which was created by Chrysler, and certainly Audi would never wish to insult or harm those parties or their fans and customers.

The recognition of the Intellectual Property Rights of third parties is a very important part of Audi’s corporate philosophy. Audi is pleased that this matter could be resolved amicably. Furthermore, Audi is proud to join the effort to support the revitalization of Detroit by contributing to selected social projects.

Likewise, a spokesperson for Eight Mile added, “Eight Mile is very pleased that this dispute could be settled quickly and amicably. Eight Mile is very impressed by Audi’s openness to discuss and reach consensus on the issues involved…”.

They deserve it with their tasteless and classless ad campaigns.

OK, the ad in question wasn't that bad, but for the majority of Audi's marketing campaigns I completely agree with you.

Am I the only one who chuckles after they show 1 minute of criticizing the S-Class without any true purpose and then a "Truth in Engineering" slogan?
If you were really true to your engineering, then your ads should not try to put down other companies' products.

How was that add tasteless though?

If the Chrysler Ad didn't exist then I'd think it was great. It was just tasteless because it took work that was already done, and incorporated it in a slightly different way. I support Audi on lots of things right now, but I really wish they'd "grow up" with their marketing campaigns. Stop taking jabs at their superiors (I say "superiors" because they admit that when they have to use those cars in the sense of trying to "dethrone" them), copying popular U.S commercials, etc.

The add wasn't made to take shot at anyone though. So they sampled the eight mile theme, and got sued deservingly so I might add. As for the rest of their adds,I'm glad to see a car company show some humor in celebrating their companies growth they really have made some of the more creative commercials of any car companies. Not everything has to be vanilla, and sophisticated, but to each is own.

I agree that it's fun to see some humor. I just think some are potshots to the competition, and it doesn't look too flattering for Audi. But yeah, some are actually really funny (the one from the Super Bowl comes to mind).

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
