A6/S6/RS6 Official: 2012 Audi A6 Avant

Between the F11 5er and this, that's a tough call as they both look great. I think the A6 would have the edge in cargo capacity. But my heart would want the 5er, it just looks perfect to me and would serve me 95% of the time.

"No Plans" To Bring 2012 Audi A6 Avant to the U.S.

INGOLSTADT, Germany — Audi has unveiled a stunning, new A6 Avant in Europe — but the German automaker, one of the premium brands in the Volkswagen group, says it will not market the redesigned wagon in the U.S.

In response to a query from Inside Line, Audi of America spokesman Andrew Lipman on Thursday said: "We don't have plans to bring the [new] A6 Avant to the U.S."

Audi of America currently sells the 2011 A6 Avant in the U.S., with prices starting at $46,075. In Europe, the 2012 A6 Avant goes on sale in the second half of 2011, priced from $58,300.

Audi is following the lead of several other premium European brands, including BMW and Volvo, in pulling wagons out of the American market. Both BMW and Volvo have cited insufficient interest from U.S. buyers for the decision to withdraw their wagons.

A notable exception is Mercedes-Benz, which announced last week that it will begin selling its 2012 E63 AMG wagon this fall in the U.S.

Audi's new A6 Avant wagon shares its fresh face and much underbody hardware with the redesigned A6 sedan, which arrives this summer at U.S. dealers as a 2012 model.

The seventh-generation A6 Avant will offer European customers a choice of two gasoline and four diesel engines, including a new 308-horsepower twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 TDI. The most frugal engine, a 2.0 TDI, returns an average 47 mpg.

Available again in front- and all-wheel drive, the A6 Avant also comes with a choice of four transmissions: A six-speed manual, a seven-speed S tronic, an eight-speed Tiptronic and a continuously variable Multitronic.

One of the more unique features on the new wagon is a "gesture-controlled" power rear hatch — that is, the tailgate opens automatically when the user activates a sensor below the rear bumper with a specific hand movement.

Among the options on the A6 Avant are adaptive air suspension, dynamic steering, head-up display, adaptive lighting, front seats with ventilation and massage function, LED headlamps and taillamps, plus a variety of infotainment components, including a hard-drive nav system and a high-end Bang & Olufsen audio system.

^ It's too bad Americans hate wagons the A6 Avant is,and looks fantastic. The S-line trim interior is executed to near perfection. It's crowded segment in terms of looks,but I give this a slight edge over the E-class wagon.

I've seen a few of the new A6s around and they're hot. I turned my head everytime I saw one of them. They grab your attention. The design isn't "ground-breaking", but it works. The car is hot. :cool:

All the haters can go _____ [insert nasty word here] themselves. It might have similar design cues from the A4 and A8 but it has its own unique look - and it's hot. The new A6 is pure sex - and the Avant will be a double orgasm. :D

It almost looks better than the sedan in some of those shots. Best looking wagon on the planet? Hmmmmm...need to see it in real life pics next to the 5-Series wagon. Audi's are just so sheek, interiors to die for.

Interesting. Now I'm really eager to see one.

The A8 always looks boring, cheap and bland in pics, until you see it in a proper element in person. The shiny paint having large and uncluttered (basically slab-sided) surfaces, large proportions, and demeanor do the talking, as opposed to styling details (save for the front). I'm wondering what the presence of the A6 will be like, especially once our eyes don't see it as a "new design" anymore.

... Impressive! BMW has work to do now, for the first time in a loooooooong time. There's a more powerful 6 cylinder diesel in town it appears

I too was impressed until tonight when I accessed bmw.com and looked up the specs for 535d. The latest figure is 220 kW or 330 hp. I swear it was 300 hp last time I looked. At least some one at BMW is listening...

Now bring on the M50d.

Update: This gets interesting. 220 kW is 300 hp, however the website says it is 330 hp. Typo or wrong kW reading?

BMW Germany says 300 hp. I think we should trust bmw.de and not bmw.com ;)

Karmar +1 :D

220kW = 299.1167558HP (~300HP)

Metric horsepower (HP) is defined as 735.49875W (0.73549875 kW) -> 220kW * 1/0.73549875 = 299.1167558HP :usa7uh:

230kW = 312.712972HP (~313HP)

225kW = 312.712972HP (~313HP)

225kW = 306HP, 230kW = 313HP... :usa7uh:

The 535d definitely has 220KW = 300 HP... The 330 hp is a typo.

225kW = 306HP, 230kW = 313HP... :usa7uh:

Yes, sorry. :eusa_doh:
I meant to type 230kW - the power featured in the new Audi's 3.0L V6 TDI engine. I've already made correction in the original post of mine.
Thanks for noticing & pointing out the mistake. :usa7uh:

The Chrysler 200 Super Bowl ad has all the makings of an instant classic. The two-minute long spot had star power, a terrific soundtrack and an uplifting message that struck a chord with the working man. We loved the commercial, and after a strong reception, we fully expected other automakers' ad agencies to ape elements of Team Pentastar's idea.

We just didn't expect that someone to be Audi, which has a strong track record of independent advertising thinking here in the States, even if much of it relies on direct comparisons to the competition. Interestingly, while the German automaker is the one that finds itself squarely in the intellectual property crosshairs, Chrysler isn't the one doing the complaining. The Detroit Free Press reports that Eight Mile Style, Eminem's song licensing company, is suing Audi for this German ad for the A6 Avant that is said to use an unauthorized interpretation of "Lose Yourself" from the Eight Mile movie soundtrack.

So Audi is using a song that sounds like "Lose Yourself." That has little to do with Chrysler's spot, right? Well, not so much. See, the ad is also over two minutes long, the eerily similar song is used in almost the exact same way, and, well, the two spots look awfully alike.

With the way the songs were used, the way the ad was shot and edited and the similarities between some of the shots, it seems obvious to us that Audi's ad agency was (*ahem*) inspired by Chrysler's Super Bowl ad.

I'm so sick of Audi's pathetically desperate and classless marketing schticks.

Audi, if you're listening, I'll buy a car from you when you present them with dignity and individuality! :D

The impact of the Chrysler Superbowl ad was actually discussed at a Pre-Geneva symposium. I liked the ad because it symbolises the US car industry especially in it's current form - down but not out. We did agree that we could never replicate such a concept in Germany - Munich , Stuttgart or Wolfsburg (because Ingolstadt does not count in VW it is always Wolfsburg). So it is surprising that Audi tried to do an interpretation and replicate Berlin as a stand-in for Detroit. (I know the person who came up with the Grand-standing idea to pull on the coat tails of the uplifting theme.
With Detroit and the Chrysler ad you can understand the message and the people it shows , Kids hanging outside a nightclub and on the streets of Berlin just does not even add up.

Then there is the Fencing aspect - For the BMW 6er Concept when illustrating design and aerodynamics for the official video interpretation we had two fencers.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
