M3/M4 Offical: Production E92 M3

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
So Tine, has this release been brought forward since the leaking of those red pictures of the M3?

Have just looked at the mini site for the M3, and in that video it looks awesome, it also says the car has 414bhp, and that it has composite brakes. This this last point true Tine, or did I misunderstand it?

No, it was scheduled in advance. :t-cheers:
The leak happened (as usually) few days before the end of embargo (officially ending on Saturday) - when BMW uploaded press kit on mediapool site, and ... as usually Dutch magazine broke the embargo, and other media followed them.

"In depth" press release is coming in June / July (M3 will be launched in early September) while this is initial press release ... or as BMW calls it: a teaser. :D

Do you like M3 internet teaser / microsite? Drums & thunder! :ylsuper:

Icelandic landscape is very interesting. :D

Now ... All bow down to Scott!

Did it not say "compound" brakes? My English is not good enough to tell if there is a real world difference.

Edit: compound brakes are not the same as composite brakes.

From todays press info:

Weight, empty = 1 580 kg
EU Weight (incl. driver) = 1 655 Kg

Ouch! That's not that light at all!

I thought claimed 1580kg weight is by EU standard, not DIN.
Because E46 M3 weights 1570kg or 1584kg (depends on market) by EU standard, and 1495kg (or 1509kg) by DIN.

So E92 M3 is 85kg (71kg) heavier than E46 M3!!!

So ... weight-to-power ratio is

E46 M3: 4.36 (DIN), or 4.58 (EU)
E92 M3: 3.76 (DIN), or 3.94 (EU)

So improvement of 13.8% !

Oops -- misread specs!

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
