Golf Octavia vs Golf V 4x4

Autobahn Newbie
Hello, I’m Daniel and i wanna buy a Skoda Octavia II AWD. It has the 1.9 TDI and 230000 km.
The price is 3500 euros.
I know nothing about AWD cars and their maintenance. Could you guys help with? I wanna know how expensive is to maintain the 4x4 car compared to a normal Octavia. Which engine should I get? 1.9 TDI? 2.0 TDI or bigger?
I’m also thinking about a Golf V 2.0 TDI or 2.0 FSI 4motion. What do you think about these cars? I wanted a TSI with 122 or 140 hp but I read that they’re kinda problematic

Hello Daniel!

The 1.9TDI engine is almost indestructible and one of the most reliable engines you can get. A 4x4 Octavia shouldn't require much more than a typical FWD one, other than the occasional fluid checks for the AWD system.

As for your other question, keep in mind that the early FSI and TSI engines were notorious for carbon deposits. If you don't enjoy spending time and money maintaining or restoring your car, I'd suggest the TDI route.

I already have a golf IV ALH and the engine runs well, other than In 6000 km I remained without oil once, I don’t know how, it was -20 and I tried to start the car and didn’t start and then I watched the oil and there was nothing. I put 4l of oil and started well. A few days later, the oil was higher then maximum. I was thinking about 1.9L but I would like a bit more power. Would 2.0 TDI with let’s say, 250k mileage be a problem? Would bankrupt me?
And I also have another option, Octavia tour 4x4 with 1.9l or 2.0 MPI
