GT-R Nissan GT-R50

The Nissan GT-R (Gran Turismo–Racing; model code: R35) is a series of cars built by Nissan from 2007 to 2025. It has a 2+2 seating layout and is considered both a sports car and a grand tourer. The engine is front-mid mounted and drives all four wheels. It succeeds the Nissan Skyline GT-R, a high-performance variant of the Nissan Skyline. The car is built on the PM platform, derived from the FM platform used in the Skyline and Nissan Z models. Production is conducted in a shared production line at Nissan's Tochigi plant in Japan.

The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is the result of excess. It's a "GT-R without limits," according to Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s senior vice president for global design. The collaboration is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of both the GT-R and Italdesign, and the result is stunning.

It appears as if every crease and design line is new while retaining the GT-R iconic, edgy aesthetic. The basis for the GT-R50 is a 2018 Nismo, though the final product looks ready for a debut in Gran Turimso. What makes the GT-R50 stand out is the gray and contrasting gold exterior.

Up front, there’s a gold inner element surrounding the grille. The hood has a more pronounced power bulb, which is flanked by think LED headlights stretching from the outer cooling intakes to the wheel arch. Designers lowered the roofline by about 2 inches (54 millimeters), which features a lower center section and slightly raised outer portions. Gold inlays accent the GT-R’s signature “samurai blade” cooling outlets behind the front wheels.

There are muscular flares around the wheels and a redesigned rear window. The GT-R's iconic, twin round taillights feature thin light rings and hollow centers. There’s a large, adjustable rear wing mounted with two uprights. Twenty-one-inch custom wheels help complete the look.

Inside, there are two different carbon fiber finishes on the center console, instrument panel, and door linings. Black Italian leather and black Alcantara are used on the seats. Gold accents sneak inside across the instrument panel, doors, and switchgear. The flat-bottom steering wheel’s central hub and spokes are made from carbon fiber while the rim features matching Alcantara trim.

Nismo upgraded the biturbocharged 3.8-liter V6 to produce an estimated 710 horsepower and 575 pound-feet (780 Newton-meters) of torque. Changes include high-flow, large-diameter GT3 competition-spec turbochargers and larger intercoolers, high-flow piston jets, revised camshaft profiles, higher-flow fuel injectors, and heavy-duty crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods and bearings. Engineers also reinforced the dual-clutch sequential six-speed rear transaxle and installed stronger differentials and drive shafts.

The suspension also saw a revision, featuring the Bilstein continuously adjustable damping system. Six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo brakes provide stopping power while Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires offer grip.

The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign will make its debut in Europe next month.

I really like the rear, but the front looks like it is giving birth to another car.

I quite like it... could have done with being NISMO red with contrast black/Carbon though... or maybe Championship blue and white :D

More than a little Nissan 2020 VGT in there also.

Nissan was willing to put the GT-R50 prototype into production – and that they will do, making just 50 units, each one priced at €990,000 (equal to $1,124,410) in Europe, before taxes and optional extras.

Design-wise, the exterior will remain identical to that of the concept that was first shown to the world at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year, although customers will be able to specify their own exterior and interior color choices.

“The reaction from Nissan fans around the world – and potential customers of the GT-R50 – has greatly exceeded our expectations”, said Nissan’s Global Sports Car Program Director, Bob Laishley. “These 50 cars, which celebrate 50 years of the GT-R, as well as 50 years of Italdesign, will be rolling tributes to Nissan’s engineering leadership and rich sports car heritage for a long time to come.”

Customer deliveries of the GT-R50 by Italdesign will commence in 2019 and the final examples of the car will be shipped the following year.

Based on the 2018 GT-R Nismo, the GT-R50 features a distinctive bodywork and a special interior layout, as well as Bilstein adjustable dampers and Brembo brakes.

The engine has been optimized with new internals, and it now pushes out a staggering 720 PS (710 hp / 530 kW) and 780 Nm (575 lb-ft) of torque.

Before hitting assembly, the vehicle will be on display at the Nissan Gallery in Yokohama, Japan, from December 7.

It's intriguing to say the least. Something for the collectors, I suppose.

Who would buy a Nissan, even by Ital Design, at this price ?!

Plenty of rich collectors out there who might be interested in a rare, immensely capable, Ital built, desirable-just-cos-of-its-price, appreciating asset...

... and they might not be badge snobs ...

... just sayin'

I would rather give that amount of money if there was special edition of Ford GT than for this Nissan.

so fly.. but the price is just insanity

I wonder if someone will tune it..lool

I like the exterior design, it would have made a nice evolutionary design for the next gen. But besides higher quality materials inside, the interior is rather ho-hum same. And, yea, that price is just nutty. You got to be filthy rich GT-R fanatic for you to even consider it.

Also, another point.... the whole reason for a GT-R to even exist is its relatively accessible price point and that it's so capable yet so approachable. I know it's a very, very.....very special edition, but this exercise seems antithetical to the GT-R's M.O.

Maybe it was foreseen to be used as a tax bypassing payment for Ghosn and now they have to search for new customers. Now knowing that Toyota president receives less than 2 million $ per year it would be hard to sell them in Japan
