GT-R Nissan GT-R (Spy pics & info)

The Nissan GT-R (Gran Turismo–Racing; model code: R35) is a series of cars built by Nissan from 2007 to 2025. It has a 2+2 seating layout and is considered both a sports car and a grand tourer. The engine is front-mid mounted and drives all four wheels. It succeeds the Nissan Skyline GT-R, a high-performance variant of the Nissan Skyline. The car is built on the PM platform, derived from the FM platform used in the Skyline and Nissan Z models. Production is conducted in a shared production line at Nissan's Tochigi plant in Japan.
Looks like Nissan took a Porsche along with them while testing the GT-R, as I can see a silver Carrera (S? 4S?) in the background of a few of the shots.

The funny thing is just as they test to match various current 911s, Porsche will debut a facelifted 911 on that arse.

^Merc1 Don't count GT-R out just yet. I'm sure Nissan knows that as well, they're not planning on matching the 911, they're planning on surpassing it. Whether that will be acheived is something we'll have to see, but I honestly would buy a GT-R over a Carrera 4 or something anyday. Turbo on the other hand....you can figure that out. :D

GT-R Speculation: Details Emerge!

GT-R speculation: More tech details emerge

The GT-R may be the most eagerly anticipated Nissan in the history of the Japanese automaker. New information has been coming to us in a steady leak for months, and this time we're getting more details from the folks over at 7tune. Nissan's VQ family of engines won't apply to Nissan's affordable supercar, instead a new VR designation will befit a new 3.8-liter V6 with twin turbos and a bad-ass output of 480hp. Nissan will use plenty of high-quality, light weight materials, like titanium for the intake valves, a carbon fiber hood, and magnesium alloy for the oil pan, cam covers, and exhaust, while Variable Valve Event Lift (VVEL) will help crank out maximum power and efficiency. Nissan is using a platform that they term "Midship Premium", and much of the weight is being concentrated in the middle of the car for better handling.

We're as excited about the coming of the GT-R as most of you are, and the more we hear about Sir Ghosn's crowned jewel, the better it sounds.

Nissan GT-R in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Release on 20 October 2007

The lid has been closed on the Nissan GT-R since its sneak appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, resulting in the fact that all eyes will be on the Tokyo Motor Show which starts next month. Nissan has just increased anticipation even further today by, together with Sony Computer Entertainment, releasing a short statement that the new Nissan GT-R will be featured in the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue teaser video game.

The GT5 Prologue game will be launched simultaneously with the actual Nissan GT-R at Tokyo on 20 October so that everybody can first see the car, online or in the flesh, and race it in the comfort of their own home immediately after. The final version of the video game will be released almost two months later just in time for the holidays.

More screenshots and teaser videos are available on the Gran Turismo website.

As if we needed another reason to believe Gran Turismo is the greatest racing game franchise ever, today's two-part announcement at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show confirmed it for us. Seems there will be another available downloadable demo release date that will coincide with next Month's Tokyo Motor Show. Even better, the game is set to include several new car models.

The accompanying screencaps are an interesting twist. The new production Nissan GT-R can be clearly seen, dressed with black camo just like any pre-production test car. Just when we thought there was no faster way to get photos of a hot new pre-production model injected into the blogosphere than parading around Nurburgring in the automotive camouflage equivalent to pasties, Sony and Nissan go and prove us wrong. Bravo.

Nissan takes pre-orders for GT-R

Nissan dealerships in Japan began taking pre-orders for the upcoming GT-R sports car yesterday. Buyers will be able to place their pre-orders up until the car's October 28th unveiling at the Tokyo Motor Show. However, anyone who signs to take delivery of the car must do so, no order cancellations will be allowed.

The GT-R is available in three different variants. The standard model is rated at 480 horsepower and starts at $57,000 with the up-level V-Spec raising the price to $67,000. The GT-R EVO-Spec — which has 530 horsepower and sheds 200 pounds — retails for $94,000. Buyers will begin to take delivery of their cars starting in December.

There has been no word from Nissan if the GT-R's warranty will be voided if it is sold within the first year it is titled.

Nissan Skyline GT-R a Porsche and Lambo killer?
7e3f10f63bff40d2bc5b53deae07c867.webp

During testing at the Nurburgring this week, the Nissan Skyline GT-R was spotted putting in some very hot laps. Although the numbers are unofficial, and reportedly hand-timed, the initial times are impressive. Putting the Skyline GT-R in a class with the Porsche 911 Turbo and substantially ahead of the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, the all-wheel drive coupe’s times are nearly unbelievable, given the pricing announced when it was released for sale in Japan on Thursday.
The Skyline GT-R is two seconds ahead of the 911 Turbo and a whopping eight seconds ahead of the Gallardo Superleggera, lapping the ‘ring in a searing 7:38, according to Edmunds. In fact, given the possible margin of error introduced by hand-timing, the GT-R could be running in a league with the Porsche 911 GT2, which laps the ‘ring in a scorching 7:32.

The Nissan engineers are working their ass off trying to beat the lap record. A few months ago, the track side observers said the test mules were lapping around the mid 7min 40sec bracket, so a 7:38 is possible.
