Nissan ad: Beat the Germans

A SLS billboard was on monday replaced by a new Nissan ad with the title "The Germans are wurst off" with a text stating that the GTR is faster around the ring than a 911 Turbo from £59,000. It made me giggle in disbelief that anyone who's dreamt off owning a 911 his entire life would abruptly choose to buy a Nissan instead.

It makes me giggle in disbelief that you believe the ad is aimed at the guy dreaming about owning a 911 his entire life.

That's because it is. Nissan has been on Porche's tail for ages and cannot seem to refrain from using the 911 and Porsche in their comparative advertising and marketing activities. I respect the GT-R's performance and unique design but contantly trying beating on about how better the GT-R is than the 911 TT is making Nissan look like trolls. Who are they really trying to convince here, 911TT dreamers who cannot afford to buy the Porsche and settle for a GT-R? Are these advertising messages suppossed to make them feel better or what? On a performance level the GT-R is a valid substitute but on an emotional and image level it simply isn't. A beautiful bag from GAP is simply not a Gucci no matter how you try to spin it.

One can't help but wondering why Nissan suffers from such inferiority complex. I mean, they make good cars and all.

If BMW, Audi or Porsche were to dignify this nonsense with a response (which I'm sure they won't), Datsun Nissan are going to look pretty silly if any of them choose to mention their motorsport (i.e. REAL racing) credentials.

Lol, that's the IMAX theater at Waterloo, I live ten miuntes from there. I have to agree that it's a bit cheeky putting decals on the Cayman and TT-S. Nevertheless, if money was no object, only 2 in 10 people would choose the 350-Z over the mid-engined Porsche or highly popular TT-S.

Funny how they used a pre-facelifted version of the Cayman. The 350z wouldn't stand a chance against a proper Cayman S with PDK.
