^^ why?? Audi interiors have lost it since last generation.

Absolutely false their interiors just keep getting better. Wait for the S3/RS3 interiors to show face, and school the entire segment to how it's done.

Is there a role reversal going on between these two companies, if anything this new A3 should appeal to BMW fans more because it's more simplified and less busy which the 1 series now is. Hard to tell from photos if there a difference in quality between them either though I doubt it.

To me its more about the interior design and if the interior user friendly. Interior quality is less important since neither Audi/bmw/mercedes make any interiors with bad quality. Anyway my car choices isnt based only on the interior. It's the totall package that matters. But based on these photos I'm not impressed with the A3's interior. Lets see what the car look like.

Nice contrast between the interiors. Audi are clearly intent on transforming the interior expectations of s hatchback. No longer do they need to look heavy with a massive centre console featuring a million buttons. What we see here is something more along the lines of what buyers would expect in a TT or a sports car, more more sculptured, sporty and athletic reflecting the user base. Some won't like it at first but I predict it will be a game changer just like how I-drive made most interior look antique.

What I look from an interior is a clear and easy to read display first and good grouping of secondary controls which both design do, I don't have a preference both I do feel that the amount of silver detailing on the 1er makes it look a bit busy which was something Audi have been accused of in the past. The only negative I have for the A3 is I hope different colour choices will be available because all black can become boring.

If you will not be able to change radio station or volume with just one click of the button I will say BMW interior is more ergonomic .

The power of control is in your thumbs. Steering wheel buttons.

I know this isn't identical to the MMI in the new A3 but I think you will get the picture.

The knob to the right is the volume, the more recent MMI setups include six preset buttons down on this section for radio stations so I can't agree that the I-Drive is any more ergonomic.

New 1-series comes with I-drive standard. To start the radio hit the startbutton on the radio then you use the knob to change and tune radiochannel. Or, you can use the steering wheel to change radiostation and turn down/up the volume.

Audi aren't waging a war against buttons like Steve Jobs who's chronic God complex led him to abort the stainless steel buttons in private jet for brushed aluminium ones. What Audi are aiming to do here is to reduce duplicate functionality i.e actions which can either be done using the steering wheel, buttons on the center console or through the MMI. I welcome the radical direction in interior design. It will leave artists with more freedom to craft beautiful dashboards rather than having to designing interiors around the default clusters of buttons which have occupied center consoles for the past 10-20 years.

New Audi A3 revealed

Executive hatch will be more luxurious than ever - and there's hybrid and electric versions in the pipeline, too

The newAudi A3 will be more stylish, luxurious and hi-tech than ever – and Auto Express has full details on the firm’s BMW 1 Series challenger, which will arrive first in sporty three-door form in early 2012.

Previewed earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, the new A3 range will consist of four body styles. A five-door Sportback arrives in 2013, but before then there will be this three-door, plus a saloon for the first time. There will also be hybrid versions and an electric model.

Based on official Audi sketches, our exclusive images show how the big-selling three-door will look. It’s more angular than before, and the LED headlights are inspired by those on the facelifted A5 and all-new A6. The large grille is lifted directly from the compact saloon concept Audi displayed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. A sloping roof and chunky rear pillars give it a sportier profile, while the pronounced crease running from front to back along the car’s flanks – called a ‘tornado line’ by Audi designers – will be a feature of all A3 variants.

Audi’s most recent models, such as the A6 and A1, have been praised for their class-leading interior build quality, and the firm plans to continue this trend with the A3. Chunky heater controls and eyeball-style air vents will be lifted from the A1, and a soft-touch dashboard and high-quality materials will be used throughout. Hi-tech gadgets include a sat-nav system which displays directions on to satellite images taken from Google Maps, and an Internet connection. The engine line-up will comprise 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 and 2.0-litre turbo petrol units delivering between 105bhp and 210bhp. Diesel options will use 1.6 and 2.0-litre TDI engines with the most powerful producing around 170bhp. A frugal TDIe model producing around 100bhp but capable of more than 80mpg is also set to appear. Audi will also offer all-electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, which are expected to arrive late in 2013. No powertrain details have been released yet, but the A3 saloon concept used a 211bhp 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine and 27bhp electric motor. The electric version will borrow technology from the A3 e-tron concept.

Audi’s new hatch will have better handling and more comfort than the current generation, too. It rides on the Volkswagen Group’s new MQB chassis, but will have more aluminium parts than the next-generation Golf – which will use the same chassis – to reduce weight and help improve agility in both two and four-wheel-drive models. Audi Drive Select and adaptive dampers will also be offered as options. The three-door and saloon models arrive first early next year, while the five-door Sportback and Cabriolet – which is expected to be based on the longer wheelbase saloon, rather than the hatch – will follow late in 2013.

Are these really real photos from audi? looks more like something coming from magazines. Im always suspecious until I see official shots.

^^
They are just impressions based on sketches, not leaked images or anything along those lines.

Not to keen on the design (I know it's impressions but they're pretty close IMO) ,but i like the concept of the interior. How ever they should have broken up that large piece of bland plastic on the passenger side with a few lines or something.

Wow, so much camo and they`re sayin` that this car will be revealed in March.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
