In its current issue German Autobild is featuring the next-generation Audi A3 on the cover. The big news here are:

- The next-generation will also come as a notchback!
- The LED lights are moving up to the top of the front light, instead of having it at the bottom as in the Audi A4, Audi A5 or Audi R8.

For sure it's too early to tell how close this picture is to the truth, but at least it's pointing into an interesting direction. Enjoy!

re: Next-generation Audi A3 (Spy pics & info)

Y'know, given that the B8 has sprung to the top of its class in terms of dimensions (I hear it's a really big car) I think that Audi would be justified in offering the next A3 as a compact sedan. Quite pointless vs. a five door Sportback, of course, but interesting and more dynamic to look at nonetheless...?

Maybe the next S3 could be offered in Sportback and sedan guises along with the regular 3 door hatch? That'd make for some interesting competition. Whilst I quite like the current S3 for being the hyper hatch that it is, I have to admit that I am thoroughly bored with its one-body-only, 3 door configuration. An S3 Sportback would be a far far better value propostion.

I believe BMW are flirting with the same idea for the 1er. But like you said the A4 is really at the edge, the same goes for the A6 as well.

^ That's the face-lift, nothing spesh.

As for an S3 Sportback? That's on the cards for the last of the 8p generation A3's, and there's word it'll be coming stateside.

Hummm:eusa_thin The A3 is getting a bit old now, I'd like to see more than just a face lift because to me..that just looks like an A3 with the new head lamps:confused:

What on earth is that thing in white? ^^^

re: Next-generation Audi A3 (Spy pics & info)

Is there a reason why 99.99% of Audi Photoshops are created in a S/RS guise? Is Audi not appealing enough to just show the standard trim?

A 4-door A3... why don't they just make it a 2-door coupe ala the 1 series range? Those rear doors would be about as useful as the 2 rear doors of the Mazda RX-8.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
