Just looking at the front windshield rake you would have almost no visibility, that is if you can even get inside the car. So ya I guess it wouldn't really matter if you bought the car just to look at it.

No way. Don't like that at all. The shape is wrong (looks like anycoupefromanyone) and those little square headlights are terrible. If that is the next CLK then the first generation 1998-2002 will forever remain a classic.

I actually I don't mind the headlights at all, those look cool. They are really eyecatching.

The rearlights on the other hand... did a 2 year old draw those?

Those are some crappy chops! I highly doubt that they will look like that. They are cross polinations of Mazdas, Audis and Lexus. Merceds would never let anything like that roll out of the factory.

The rear is just terrible, it looks just like the 2007 Handa Civic!
Mercedes is slowly coming away from it timeless organic shapes that could
have evolved. Thay are adopting themes from other car makers.

After the new E-Class I guess, that would be around 2009/10 I think.
I just realized something: the current CLK got its facelift before the current E-Class, but the current E-Class came out before the current CLK. Wonder why's that?

Well is it really fair to say that the 2005 changes made to the CLKs really justifies as a facelift. Nothing that durastic was changed except for the engines. I dunno. I could be wrong though.

Coupes have a shorter production run than sedans. Remember the previous CLK went only 5 model years 1998-2002 before being totally replaced. Acutally Yaz, the current E, SL and CLK all were introduced for the 2003 model year here so I expect them all (minus the SL) to show up for the 2009 and 2010 model years, in short within months each other. The SL might close out the decade because I suspect it takes a little more time to put together a new SL than that it does a E or CLK. I predict we'll get a new E for the 2010 model year a new CLK for the 2009 model year. That will put the CLK at 6 model years and the E at 7.

From what I know, the SL tends to have a longer lifespan than the average Mercedes. I recall the R129 SL was extremely long in the tooth by the time it bowed-out.

Fortunately, the current SL is holding its charm pretty well. Personally, I'm in no rush to see a new one. Same goes for the CLK for that matter.

Back in '02 when the R230 SL was launched I remember reading an article with an interview with the designer (a brit - not steve mattin) that said something to the effect of "too bad this lovely design will only be with us for seven years before a new SL arrives". Which makes sense given that's the typical lifespan for a particular model generation of almost every car (German at least). As for the CLK, the one thing they really need to do is bring the brace way the hell down, it's way too expensive as it is, espeiclally with the CLS occupying much of the same space.
