I put cartoon Fox into google Image search and up popped this fellow...

It is apparently a Basil Brush Fox?

Definitely seems that way according to this telling photo:

Seems like a lot more mass has been shifted above and behind the rear-axle. Looks almost like a mini-wagon (eg: A3 Sportback) than a conventional hatch. I imagine the 3dr 1er will have a sleeker profile and styling.

Maybe you guys are taller in Europe but when i had my E87, i found the rear legroom OK, it was even dubbed "comfortable" by some friends who sat on it:D
I think the rear boot space was a bit of a joke, something that they probably can't change for a RWD but who cares, as long as it drives like a dream. Really miss my E87, the thing was just glued to the ground:bowdown:

130i 3-door is one of the funnest and best cars I have ever driven. I will forever and ever love it.

Do we have any clues as to how much lighter the new 1-series will be, compared to the current one?

Do you still have any hopes left it will turn out lighter?! Seriously? :D;)

Btw, the front looks VERY aggressive. I like it a lot. IMO it looks much better than current 1er's front! But it sure won't be everybody's darling. That's for sure! As said before: a tad too conservative greenhouse spoils the otherwise perfect package. But it's a 5dr hatch after all. :usa7uh:

Btw, there's a great shot of 1er's face in one of the 3er GT photos out there.

In fact it is going to be lighter according to Klaus Draeger interview:

BMW-Entwicklungschef Draeger im Interview: Neue Klein- und Kompaktwagen-Strategie - auto motor und sport

Translation from the article:

"How much lighter is the future 1 Series?

Draeger: We will meet any new legislative requirements that will be required in addition: New pedestrian protection legislation, new roof blister test in the U.S., etc. These are actually all the things that drive the weight. And still we keep the weight below that of the predecessor."

That sounds great! BMW should not be on its heels when the competition goes lighter.

The new matrix developed for the 1er and 3er is actually designed to be lighter it also is used within the new BMW X3 and the forthcoming F30 3er cars that are lighter than their current and previous models.
