E-Class (W213/C238/A238) Next E-class on a Severe Diet

The Mercedes-Benz W213 is the fifth generation of the E-Class range. Body styles: sedan/saloon (W213), wagon/estate (S213), long wheelbase (V213), coupé (C238), cabriolet (A238). Production: 2016–2023. Predecessor: W212 E-Class. Successor: W214 E-Class, C236/A236 CLE.
I really wish Audi change their design direction to something more eye catching like they have on this Autobild cover!

The MLBevo underpinnings will almost certainly benefit the visual proportions of the next A6/S6/RS6 series of cars. Reduced front overhang, longer and lower hoodlines and an enhanced "RWD, cab-back" appearance. Otherwise however, I suspect that the recent Autobild rendering is not very accurate.

On the other hand, the W213 E-Class rendering may indeed be quite close to the actual finished product.

The E-class and 5-series styling I would pass but the one I am not sure of is the A6, will Audi actually go that radical on the styling? I don't think so!!

I agree. In fact, we all know Autobild is 95% accurate with every MB render they do. Most of the times they need a few attempts to nail it, and this is their third render, so I believe we can trust the W213 will look a lot like this render. With the BMWs they have been quite accurate in the recent past as well. They nailed the X3 and X5, and I think they really got it with this new G30 5er and with the G11 7er.

I don´t even consider whatever Audi render they release to be remotely similar to the real deal.

Agree on both parts. The E klasse and 5er look good btw! Can't wait to see more, but the 5er is still too far away. 7er comes first.

There was trial and error before they got the X3 and the X5 right. G11 not so much yet , G30 not accurate yet.
Things will progress as they will and we will get closer but not yet. Its far too early.

The rear is too BMWesque with it's L-shaped lights.

If the new A6 looks anything like that render.....diiiiiiiyaaaaaaaaamn!

Has MB decided to copy Infiniti and scrap 125 years of design language? Those taillights are horrid.

Since the Mercedes-Benz E-Class W212 received its mid-cycle facelift in 2013 – arguably the most expensive one in history if the circulated EUR 1 billion total refresh costs are to be trusted – everyone is expecting the following generation of the model to arrive on the market at the beginning of 2016.

This would put the start of the first pre-production testing prototypes to be spotted on the road right about... now.

Well, we now don't have to wait anymore, because the first ever mule for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 has been spied by one of the spy photographers whom we collaborated with around the Nurburgring Nordschleife, where a Mercedes-Benz testing center is located.

No, we haven't gone haywire, that is indeed most of the body of the current C-Class (W205), but if you look closely you can see the much wider front and rear tracks, while the wheelbase is also significantly longer compared even with the China-only C-Class L (V205).

In other words, this is just a clever mule based on the C-Class, but that is certainly not out of the ordinary considering that the upcoming E-Class W213 will also be based on the Mercedes-Benz MRA (Modular Rear-wheel drive Architecture) platform.

As some of you know remember, the all-new E-Class is making Mercedes-Benz finally revert to their famous inline sixes when it comes to engine architecture, with a highly-modular family of inline fours and sixes to be found under the hood of the model.

From recent reports/speculations, it seems that a three-liter gasoline straight six will be twin-turbocharged and offer at least two different power outputs (367 hp and 435 hp) while a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged diesel will output from 315 hp to 405 hp.

Expect more details about the E-Class W213 in the upcoming months, as this mule is most likely to be replaced by actual pre-production prototypes with heavy camouflage, showing us the proportions of the model for the first time.
