X1 Next BMW X1 to go front-drive

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.
July. But a pre-drive is coming soon.
It looks fantastic , really a proper SAV and it has that familiarity with its siblings the X3 and X5.

Is it design wise a Mini X5? And what about air breathers? Will they appear on the new X1 Scott ?

I have not seen Air Breathers on the X1.

As you can see mini-X5 looks and its a proper SAV.

Next-gen BMW X1 long wheelbase spied in China
To be offered in China
The long wheelbase version of the 2016 BMW X1 has been spied in China.

BMW is expected to unveil the next generation X1 before the end of the year and Chinese customers are also going to receive a long wheelbase model. It will reportedly be 11 cm longer than the standard model, which will result in a bigger leg room for the rear seats.

Based on the UKL1 platform, the crossover will feature a familiar design with no major visual changes compared to the current model. Front-wheel drive will be standard and select engines will be optionally offered with an xDrive system at an additional cost. A seven-seat version is also planned and it will likely be available from day one along with the normal variant.

“An early version” of the 2016 X1 could be introduced this summer with official premiere of the production model likely to take place at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

It's looking great, much better than I initially thought from looking at the pics of the first mules. It's looking like a mini X5 but with much better defined wheelarches. I like the fact that it has nice short front and rear overhangs.

It's going to firmly take back it's segment.

Also, notice how the new car kept the feature where only the lower window trim is chrome. Pretty cool.

It never really left its segment. As is is still a huge seller especially in Europe but it would be nice to see the first months figures which in the first instance of the E84 in one month it reached around 10,000 units and by March was around 30,000+
It defined the segment for the small premium SUV just as the X3 and X5 did. And crucially it is important not at just at present but for the future also
If we take all the MINI models available today with the Compact models of BMW available today - 1er,2er,Active and Gran Tourer and X1. They already add up to pretty huge numbers and then when you think of further expansion incoming such as the MINI clubman,X1,X1Li and the just announced X2 you can begin to see the strategy coming to fruition that by 2020 BMW project they will be selling around 600,000 compact vehicles manufactured in plants across the globe for many markets.

I actually like the current X1 alot, especially when it has the side steps and roof rails in the gun metal grey colour. I like the styling that it gives the impression of been an SUV but its lower height also gives you an impression you are driving something more sportier than the conventional SUV. The interior quality wise is the only major letdown but space and comfort wise it still is very good.

This new version will be a notable upstep on looks and interior quality for sure, I cant wait for it to be launched.

As for current model I do like this colour and wheel combo. Looks nice and sporty and also adventurous.
