Hot! News and Rumors about Mercedes-AMG

Difference is a chiron can do it over, and over, the electric junk does it once and needs to be charged.
The Chiron will have to be filled up as it burns a whole tank of fuel doing that 490km/h test run in 9min or less. The car will probably have to stand for a few minutes to allow the coolant to cool down and tyres changed.

Coolant wont need to cool down and neither the tyres on the chiron.
Come on bro this is a OEM engine.

Not a 2000hp audi r8 v10 thats been turbo converted.

Hell my 750hp audi ttrs will do lap after lap at spa francorchamps all morning. And then on the drive home do 205mph and still be pulling strong but im the weak link at that point and let off.

A 2.5tfsi i5 I modified in a shed.

its a walk in the park for a chiron. Fuel and go again.

The tires absolutely WILL need to be looked at. Those tires can only handle about 15 mins at Vmax, mercifully the tank will be empty in 10.
Going at 500kmph will absolutely f#ck the tires no matter what your drivetrain is. The rotational forces at that speed will be ridiculous.

All nice and good but irrelevant here lol.

I would be interested to see if Mercedes AMG will limit the top speed of the GT 4dr EV to less than the Concept as they mentioned 360km/h for the Concept which would be faster than any Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche on sale.

Too fast for the road and us mortals. I would prefer cruising at 200km/h (given the space) in a new S-class sipping some bubbly in the reclining back seat.

That's a really good question.

I think AMG's focus is more on driving characteristics than top speed. The artificial V8 engine sound effect shows this. People have driven fast electric cars enough. They must be looking for something different.

Yeah because a fake sound adds so much to the driving characteristics.

What a f#cking joke, do you even realize how retarded this sounds?

Well it's more than just that. They have an entire simulated drivetrain setting.

Whether you think thanks good or bad is your business. But if you don't like it, you can just turn it off.

I think that those who are interested may gain a better understanding of synthetic "audiotactility" when technology savvy, highly credentialed automotive journalists have had the experience of some extended wheel-time with the production AMG.EA vehicles. And eventually, I imagine that some forum member who may be genuinely privy and may have the privilege of early wheel time may fill us in on what the deal really is in terms of how it "feels" in real life situations.

I saw one video of this car and the fake V8 sound playing through the speakers is an actual recording of the exhaust noise from a real AMG V8 at different RPM levels and whether the car is idle or moving. They fitted microphones on the exhaust tips of an AMG V8 model and recorded the sound during different driving and idling simulations and this is then played through the speakers of the AMG GT EV with different V8 sounds coming through based on the throttle position etc. It may not be 100% real but at least they using a real V8 recording.

It's not a driving characteristic, which is something haptic and physical. Sound is an experience independent of the driving part.

Just think...

Someone like...maybe...Walter Röhrl...is invited behind the wheel of a production AMG.EA 4 door electric GT sedan. Herr Röhrl is known to be one of Germany's most vocal critics of the "synthetic experience" of BEVs. He is also considered by a good many people to be one of motorsports most legendary figures.
And then, following his wheel-time with the electric AMG, he says with great astonishment..."This car really blows my f***** mind !". * In heavily eastern Bavarian-accented German, of course. "Dös is' a Wahnsinn. A Riesen-Gaudi ! Z'fix, do leckst mi am Oarsch !".

Not that this is actually going to happen. And Walter Röhrl is a Porsche AG brand ambassador. But it's interesting to speculate how something like this could really promote a change of perception towards BEVs in the sport-luxury high perforrmance segment.

Fun thought.

I mean apparently they've gone so far as to include actuators to simulate drivetrain vibrations. Which is probably the most you can do in that respect to get as close to the real experience as possible.

It's fundamentally still a simulation and digital. But if people want it, it's there. If they don't, just drive it like a normal EV.

A high-performance EV has been missing the main emotional factor that it makes a high performance ICE special and that is the sound of the engine and exhaust. Those who have owned and driven a high performance ICE car will most likely stay away from EVs if they crave that emotional sound of the engine and AMG and other high performance car brands will certainly aim to steer buyers into the new gen high performance EVs by emulating the emotion of the ICE in their cars. Lets hope they all succeed!

It'd be actually useful if there's simulated gear shifts and simulated revving like the Ionic 5N.
