Love the pics, thanks a lot :usa7uh:
Did you get to start it? (the instrument cluster is on :D)

BTW, the SLR is just breath taking up close, isn't it?

Thanks for the kind words!

Didn't get to start it, but the instrument cluster is on because when you open the door is comes on for a little bit and then turns back off. I tried to turn on Command but I guess you need to start the car to get that on because it woudln't turn on..

I have seen the SLR several times at different auto shows, but I must say that every time I see it, I still drool and find it one of the best look cars of all time. It is beautiful.

I absolutely adore the exterior styling of the S500 - it's edgy, it's youthful and it's agressive. But I feel that it doesn't suit the S-Class for all those reasons. The S-Class is not supposed to be 'agressive' or 'youthful'. It's supposed to be the pinnacle of elegance at Mercedes-Benz, not the most radical-looking.

I don't think they had a choice. The world is changing and their classic conservative design themes may not have worked as well. My only request is that if they're going to use these wheel arches on upcoming models is that they tone them down/better intergrate them. I think this car is going to sell like gangbusters in some key markets due to this eye-catching design. I know what you're saying though.

The S-Class looks really huge in these photos!

Thanks for that Merc1. The car looks excellent.

I'm going to see the car at the Australian launch in a week...I can hardly wait.

The New S-Class

A very nice job by MB...one of their better efforts at recent commercials. Feature the car and not the rider or the history! Show the product MB...makes me want to sell my S430 and get a 2007 S450 in the spring. But a 2008 or '09 model with a diesel in it will be my choice...:-)

I FINALLY saw one in person while driving down route 80 from the water gap. into NJ. It was silver and had spoiler kit so i guess it was sport, it was a S550. Xenon headlights, yellow fog lights. It looked wierd with the rear lights from the back, but i guess thats what it is, car looks very Japanese like too me, with all the fender moldings and other little exterior differences. It wasnt a clear day and i did pass by it fairly fast so all i got was a glance.

Nontheless i think its nicer from the inside then the exterior. Seeing it made think it was a Japanese make at first. Honestly cant justify the money for it. :t-hands:

But oh well... hope everyone who owns one has lots of luck and pleasure with it. Seems like it is the top of the line for most.

Funny, 'cause my cousin keeps saying that it looks like a Lexus.
I think it's just because everyone follows the S-Class - it's an icon. It's really hard to distinguish car brands these days :t-hands:

BTW, you need to see it up close to really appreciate its design, and not on a cloudy/rainy day like today :usa7uh:

Mercedes is really pushing the new S-Class it seems. I've seen the commercial from my earlier post 3 times tonight on different networks, all of them right after the Bush's state of the union address. I also saw a new Benz commercial tonight. It talks about the very first car race in the late 1800's and how Mercedes won that race. The show the first "horseless carriage" than a SL Gullwing and then a CLS55,SL55,SLR and CL55 (I think) all racing each other around a track! I mean this is an excellent commercial that builds the brand instead of telling how inexpensive the lease price is on a C230 Sedan. I think Mercedes' new ad agency here in the U.S. understands what Mercedes is/should be all about.

Edit: It is the new S-Class and a SL65 AMG in that race commercial and some of the cars from the wars with with Auto Union it looks like. Awesome Ad!

The more and more I see this car, the more and more I like it. It's got that massive in your face grill working for it whenever you see it, and the wheel flares aren't all that bad. I think this is the car to put MB back on the map of desirable makes. Lets hope the quality only adds to that and does not detract.
