I can honestly say that my opinion on the GL has changed. When it was first presented I really didn't think much of it. After having seen and sat in one I think it really does look like a Benz, much more so than it did at first. There is a hint of the original "G" in the styling and the thing is very roomy. I predict that it will do much better in the U.S. than the R-Class. I know its coming, but I don't want a GL63.

Wow the car looks very american in those pictures

If you say that then I'm thiking that you must be thinking of a particular American car when you say that? Care to shrare?

Thank you for the pictures merc1. Really is looking good.

Do you know where i would find the frontal shots of the car in that alubeam colour by any chance?

Not sure, Worldcarfans-German section doesn't have any full frontal shots, but some partial side views.

I noticed MBUSA has some new pics of the GL from Detroit:

I like the truck well enough, but I absolutely hate that standard wheel. Ugly standard wheels seem to the norm on the ML,R and now GL.

I'm sort of starting to like this truck, but not that much (yet).

So the GL will get Distronic (or Distronic Plus)? Why didn't they offer that on the ML or the R? I won't feel safe knowing that my big SUV drives itself :t-hands:

Some pics and a article on the GL from Forbes:

In the United States, sales for the DaimlerChrysler (nyse: DCX - news - people ) subsidiary are up 16% this year, and the company is coming off its best February in history. Two new vehicles, the R-Class SUV and flagship S-Class sedan, have been hits; in February, both outsold the E-Class sedan, which has been outsold in Mercedes' lineup only by the entry-level C-Class line for the past two years.
