CTS New CTS-V: 550 HP Supercharged V8

The Cadillac CTS is a luxury car, manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2003 until 2019 across three generations.
It highly amusing how Nuringburgring lap times have become one of the biggest marketing tools for sports cars.

And thank god for that and it is not some 0-60 or quarter mile time. While the absolute time it self has little relevance to daily driving, it does put the emphasis on handling.

The 2009 Cadillac CTS-V has broken the eight-minute mark for a lap around the Nurburgring Norschleife, putting in a lap time of 7:59:32 during testing, which may be the fastest lap time ever for a sedan.

Holy crap, if that's true, then WOW. I'm surprised as hell. That's pretty amazing, but lets see the official numbers first.

As impressive as it is, I don't think it will be the first sedan to set sub 8 min time by factory drivers, I think BMW and Audi has both said the same for M5 and RS4.

Now if sport auto manages the sub 8 min time with CTS V, kudos to them.

Isnt the CTS-V more of a M5/E63/RS6 Competitor?

The interior looks very busy but I like it. The exterior on the other hand is awkward... The big chicken mesh grills on the front look terrible.

However kudos to the <8 min time on the Ring. Looking forward to some reviews

Not necessarily. The CTS is sized in between the small and meduim European cars. Cadillac has always marketed the CTS-V as a M5 competitor and with 550+ hp they're really going after the M5 this time around too. On paper at least the CTS-V squashes the M3/C63/IS-F/RS4. The CTS is an in between car, priced like the M3/C63/IS-F/RS4, but performs like the M5/E63/RS6 etc.

RECORD RUN AT NURBURGRING? Cadillac’s 2009 CTS-V has lapped the Nurburgring's Nordschleife in 7min59.32 as part of final testing of its supercharged engine.

May 12, 2008

Cadillac’s 2009 CTS-V has lapped the Nurburgring's Nordschleife in 7min59.32 and is claiming to be the fastest publicly documented time for a production sedan.

Cadillac has almost finished testing this limited-edition, high-performance model that's based on the award-winning CTS sport sedan - a car earmarked for launch in South Africa.

John Heinricy, racing driver and director of vehicle integration, drove the CTS-V through its sub-eight minute lap without any performance modifications outside of those planned for production - which will start towards the end of 2008

The CTS-V and its 412kW engine are in the final stages of intensive testing and development, the automaker says, and one of the realistic objectives of the team is to make the CTS-V the world’s fastest production sedan.

It's all part of an overall goal to make the V-Series Cadillac the company’s ultimate expression of performance and technology. More updates will be released in coming weeks as testing is finalised, including the car’s certified SAE power ratings, acceleration data and US-market pricing.

Video documentation of the car’s breakthrough Nordschleife performance will be posted online soon coming days at Cadillac Drivers' Log

The eight-minute mark has long been recognised as a major Nurburgring target, reserved for race cars and the fastest exotic sports cars. While there’s no single official repository for Nurburgring data from private test sessions, numerous reputable websites and publications report lap times from race teams, automakers and independent sources
More updates (and a video) will be released in coming weeks
.

The 2009 CTS-V includes a suite of advanced performance technologies, including a new version of Cadillac’s "magnetic ride control" suspension and the LSA 6.2-litre supercharged V8.

The CTS-V will include the choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmission - the latter with manual-sequential changes through steering-wheel buttons

Two weeks ago I read that the CTS-V has now out sold the Mercedes-Benz E63 and BMW M5 combined.

My friends tell me the next version will get a 5.7 to 6.0liter DOHC V8 good for about 612hp!

Someone this pics being post for someone who replaced his M5 by cts-v back in 2009 !!

After driving his car for 1 year and 8 months his car seems to be 10 years old !!
