Mercedes-Benz Previewing Future Design Language With Detroit Concept

Mercedes-Benz will reportedly show off a new concept car at next month’s 2010 Detroit Auto Show that will preview the automaker’s future design language.

The information comes directly from the automaker’s new design chief, Gordon Wagener, who is keen to raise the design credentials of cars wearing the Three Pointed Star.

"We want to elevate our design towards art and if any company can do it Mercedes can," he revealed to Autocar. Wagener wasn’t willing to give any specific details but he explained that it would be a "pure design concept which is long and exaggerated."

Importantly, it won’t hint at any particular production model although there’s rumors that it will resemble the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS, which you can see in recent spy shots by clicking here.

The last time we saw such a daring concept car from Mercedes-Benz was back in 2007 when the automaker unveiled the F700 pictured above. While that concept mostly previewed the automaker’s future technology, it too was a preview of what Mercedes-Benz had in store for its upcoming production cars.

Finally, a new and proper concept car. Could it be an F, maybe F800?:eusa_thin

I am kinda worried about that 'exaggerated' Wagener is talking about...

This'll be awesome...hopefully it'll be a real fascinating concept car, not like the BlueZero...

Awww yeah. I can't wait to see a new design language....but at the same time, I hope to not be disappointed.

Cadillac called they say they want their desi... hum... in fact, no... thay say they can keep that front grill design, it sucked anyway...

guess who the designer of the concept will be?
My bet is Mr. Habib who just left BMW

It would be cool if our member Hussein had a hand in this new concept/design language like he did with the rear bumper design of the E63 AMG

I'd say this time they will showcase something with a completely different approach than the previous concepts. Mind that Merc really wants to catch up with the design game. I think it will show design clues to the future coupe models and a lot of S :eusa_doh:

Catch up? I didn't know MB was behind... The F700 has some pretty damn untouchable details, so there is a lot MB can pull from just right there.

but the F700 concept doesn't have anything to do with recent models does it? its round shape goes against Merc's current design philosophy

F700 is about the future...not the current line-up. Look for the next S-Class to get design cues from that.

When are we gonna see this car? Is there any news?.

Nothing new lately, but expect to see something soon, with NAIAS coming up. A possible leak could occur this week, but don't expect to see official pics earlier than Thursday or Friday.

C-Class Coupe, CLS or some type of F concept, or Vision???? So many possibilities.

The C-Coupe won´t preview any future MB design, since it´s basically a C-Class (the LCI one).
