New BMW N54 3.0 litre twin-turbo: Official

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

I thought this engine would get much more power and torque?

Oh well, I'm sure BMW are playing the tuning very safe and trying to keep the legendary characteristics of their NA engines in check. It will no noubt perform superbly.

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

A 3.0L I6 twin turbo should be able to develop a lot more than 225kW; though 400Nm isn't too bad. 225kW is barely more than the 3.0L I6 makes in NA version in the 130i. They're probably trying not to impinge too much on the widely-rumoured 4.0L V8 that will be in the next M3.

That said, if the two turbos are small, then you might need something more than an ECU upgrade to get monstrous power.

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

So is this car going to compete with MB C350 and IS350?

- MB C350 has ,272hp, 350Nm
- Lexus IS350 has 306, 375Nm
- BMW 330i has 258hp, 300Nm
- BMW 335i has 306hp, 400Nm

C350 cost more than 330i. What about 335i, do you think 335i are going to cost a lot more than C350?
Can we expect to see C350 vs IS350 vs 335i comparisons in the future?
What about Audi A4, is there going to be a 300hp A4 soon?

Can we expect a 335si with about 330hp and ZSG in a close future?

BTW Pressrelese can be found here. Translated with help of google

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

335 is M3 performance for M3 money? I dont know, but I'd expect one of two things to happen, a) either the price on the 335 is up there, or b) they mark down the prices of the current cars w/ the new model designations. Whatever the case, I wouldn't expect to see a whole lot of 335's if they end up pricing it around 45k+. For this size of car, that kind of money is way pushing it. Unless you're an attn. whore? :D :t-cheers:

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

So BMW is now using turbo chargers. How did Lexus achieve about the same power figure without turbos. I think I guessed it, it`s inline 6 is a little larger.
(Rumer has it the next 760IL V12 will also be Bi-Turbo charged)

lexus: 3.5 liters
335i: 3.0 liters

BTW isnt C350 a 3.5 liters engine as well?

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

all are 3.5 liters
actually performance wise the 330 gives them all a run for their money
especially the C350, the 335 will be overkill

335si with 330HP and ZSG gearbox will be even beter. ;)

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

Will that be available from the start too? Or later on?

And does that mean we will have options for manual, SMG, ZSG and auto tranny?
Or will SMG only be available in M cars????

I guess soon after launch.

SMG for M cars only. Others (some "si" editions) will get ZSG instead.

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

well well!
M3 performance for less money
i'd like that
ZSG seems interesting too

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

Not really too keen on turboed BMW's. But atleast now you should be able to tune the engine up to high figures alot easier right?

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

I really don't understand the point of this engine from a cost perspective when they already had a naturally aspirated inline-six with more power. A 3.0 liter 6 cylinder with forced induction should make more than that much power too.
