New BMW N54 3.0 litre twin-turbo: Official

An interesting and almost creepy lil' slice of car porn. It appears to be a collection of raw marketing clips tossed together into a single video.

A swedish carmag interviewed a guy from BMW regarding the Turbo.

Q: Why did it take 20 years to see a Turbo engine from BMW?
A: Two reasons, Turbo lag and high fuel consumption

Q: Can we expect more Turbo engines?
A: Yes, our "top-of-the-line" models is going to get Turbo

Another thing that's pushed the development of turbo is efficiency. Europe is dealing with outragous gas prices that aren't going anywhere soon, and BMW needs to hedge against future emmision laws that could kill some of the NA fun.

When the 2002 Turbo was in production it was a problematic car.
The turbo lag made it a Sado-Masochist car from a driving point of view.
So the safety lobby guys started a war on BMW, since this car when on unskilled hands ended up in trees or something like that.
And let's not forget the mighty 2002 TIK. This was the supreme 2002 in performance but also the lest reliable.
It would leave the 2002 Tii and Porche 911 in the dust in the ETCC races, but chances were that it engine would blow up, because the combination between turbo and injection was pretty much experimantal in the late 60's-early 70's.
So in conclusion we should also add safety and reliability to the former mentioned.
