X5 New BMW E70 X5 official photos & info!

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.

It's finally here! The car that made me the GCF I am today. I am blown away by the interior, indeed the best in its class. Love that electronic gear shifter. That's how a luxury SUV's interior should be. Take that MB, Porsche, and Audi :D. I am very impressed.

I'm not too excited about the front though, the headlights ruined it IMO. They should've made 'em similar to the E90's headlights. The side profile and back are an improvement, not that different from the current one.

All in all, I love it! Can't wait to see one in person soon.
I respect your opinion, the front is probably the hardest part of the car to digest. However, I really think that the headlights match the "macho" look of the car. If the headlights were as straight as the E90's, it just wouldn't give that aggressive look to match that crazy looking hood.

As for the interior, I think design wise it is absolutely beautiful. However, I think Audi is still king when it comes to fit and finish. If BMW are able to match that, then that would be a huge step forward. The combo that Osna has is not that great imo, wood and terra leather. I just think that there's too many shades of brown. Aluminium trim would look great.

The gearlever... There's a P button on the stick itself. Is that just another way to put it in park or what? Or is that button just to put it in Park while the other releases the handbrakes?

For some reason this car reminds me of a cute thick chick w/ a nice booty....

even though there's no "booty" to be seen here...

That's cool how we have different views, because I see a rhino charging at you. There's nothing cute about a huge charging rhino :D
Btw, nice pics you found on BMWUSA... here are some more. I love this car... it clicked instantly while the E92 and Z4 took longer

I know a lot of people have said this...but that is th best interior for an SUV ...its actually my favorite current interior

wow these latest pics are HOT.. a black one will surely be KILLAH:D

IMPORTANT

BMW came out with the official press-release for the 2007 X5 -unfortunately it's not available in English yet. It seems my information on the diesel engine was "one turbo wrong" as the X5 gets the normal 231 Hp 3.0 AND NOT the 272 Hp twin-turbo 3.0 6cylinder -although it is certain that the X5 will get this engine later. Also, the 4.7 V8 pumps out 355 Hp (and not 367 Hp) while the 3.0 petrol is good for 272 Hp (and not 265 Hp).

wow.. thats kinds weak compared to the ML500 wich puts out 388hp soon.. they will update that engine..
they should atleast have used the 367hp engine from the 550

Its hardly weak compared to a car (ML550/ML500) that doesn't exist yet (still no official work when that'll happen... after all the word "soon" is as good as saying "how long is a piece of string?") ;) It might be inevitable, but still unfair to make such a statement. Besides, 302hp put out by the current ML500 is hardly weak... let alone 350hp put out by the new X5. :usa7uh:

It's the same engine, but de-tuned. Don't ask me why cause I do not know. :D

But mind that new V8 engines are in development and will hit markats with X6 & new 7er in 2008. Then X5 E70 will get a new more powerful V8 too.

Regarding: iDrive & xDrive updates - it's not such a big deal. I thought new Dynamic xDrive will be offered in E70 - since it was tested in the E70 prototypes - but it seems they are going to debut it in X6 in early 2008. IDrive updates are really minor - the biggest thing are programmable shortcut radio buttons which can also activate pre-set naigation destination and phone numbers.

Regarding engines: yes, more will come. Especially diesels. And of course top-end performance model.

Regarding that info on X5world: yes, its from dealer's bulletin.

Well, MB also uses (and has used) de-tuned engines in the ML. For example the ML420 CDI has "only" 306 hp and 700 Nm but in the E-Class and S-Class the same engine has 314 hp and 730 Nm. I remember that last generation M-Class also had a couple of "de-tuned" engines. The E53 X5 has 4.4i which is the same engine that was used in the 545i, 645i and 745i. In 5-, 6- and 7-series it had 333 hp and 450 Nm but in the X5 there's "only" 320 hp and 440 Nm. So it's not a new thing really.

It might be the same reason that Land Rover engines are weaker than the equivalent Jaguar engines: the engine and lubrication system has to be able to work at crazy angles off-road, modifying the engine loses power.

Any word on the engine and output of the top model?

well may it be a new thing or old.. i dont understand why BMW and MB does it..these cars are expensive..and they are heavy..they should have the top of the range engine.. imo

I read 5.4is, no power numbers though.
Less than 450 hp would be bad imo.

IMO its got to be at least 400BHP to keep up with the Cayenne. It probably needs less power than the Cayenne as it is most definately lighter, without the low range gearbox and locking diffs. If the turbo has 450BHP than an X5 with similiar power and torque numbers will probably be quicker. However I expect something like 425BHP so performance around the standard turbo is to be expected.

BTW this shot is awesome!! Love the rear as well now!

That is a very nice shot.

There's a turbo V8 in development, so I think it only makes sense to wait for that engine, rather than implement the older V8's. This is only my guess though :t-hands:

Here's another take. Most people on this forum believe that the E39 was one of the best BMW's made. When the E60 came, people didn't like the looks because it went too far from what was the perfect car. Even now, many will admit that the E39 is better looking than the E60. To me, the X5 was just like the E39. It looks just right. So now that they do an evolutionary design rather than a revolutionary design (E39 --> E60), people call them too conservative. :)

To me this new X5 is just right. From every angle, the car is muscular, but in a way more compact looking than let's say the Q7, which is something I really appreciate in an SUV.
