X5 New BMW E70 X5 official photos & info!

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.

Re: The real stuff: New X5

okey its out now.. here is my take on it.. but still i want to see it in real life..

but for now.. the front is so nice.. it has the big grill wich i love..and the headlights are gr8 until they reach the outer edge..where i feel that a child have drawn the line around the light unit..its all sloppy and un even to my eyes..at this moment.. if it could be more sharp than round this car could have been the best SUV Face EVER..

the rear to me is very boring.. not so much new.. just the old stuff..

on the other hand im impressed with the interior.. its pretty darn nice..with that aluminum and wood going on.. love it.. the shifter is super cool to:D

So all in all.. i like the car.. but i reserve judgement until i see it.. but for now..its super.. like it more than the Q7.. but it could have been so much more when it comes to exterior design..

Thats my opinon..

PS
One more complaint what the hell happend to the exhaust tipps..they used to be so gr8 phat and quad.. and look at them now.. looks like they are from a lower end X5 like the 6 cylinder diesel..those do not fit with the V8 X5 to be honest..

Re: New E70 X5 Photos Out!

First of all, is that Gene from down under, a long-standing member on the old GCF forum?

Back to the matter at hand: the new BMW X5.

Well, I'm not entirely convinced. It's certainly an evolutionary iteration of BMW's ground breaking SAV - I mean how much revolution can you actually build into the design of a large SUV? They just don't lend themselves yet to the creative license we see exercised in, let's say, saloon car design in my humble opinion. A big two-box wagon on stilts is a big two-box wagon on...

The side profile is instantly recognisable and keeps the X5 DNA wholly intact. To differentiate this as an altogether new generation it's safe to say that the X5 has undergone major reconstructive rhinoplasty. The front may be described by the agents of BMW as aggressive, which it is to a certain extent, but I feel that again, it's a little overdone and fussy. That is a trend that's not unique to the BMW badge of course, the whole crop of recent large SUV's seem to have a huge expanses of frontal area interspersed with smatterings of fussy detailing.

The Audi Q7, Merc ML and new X5 are perfect counterparts with neither exhibiting any particular attribute that differentiates them from the other.

This X5 will be a cracking success once again and has all the mass appeal and status required to cut it in this class, but I know that I'd eat maggot-infested farm manure for a new twin-turbo V8 diesel Rangie Sport. ;)

Indeed it is me! Always been lurking around... through the high's and low's of the Germancarfans forums - when we used to thank Brian for making a wonderful car forum, and the sad time when he closed down. Then there was the intermittent forum in between this one and GCF that never really took off, and finally we're here. All in the space of 4-5 years - You know what they say: "The world is a hectic place with people coming and going... good and bad things happening... but rugby and german cars help keep me going".

:D

I like it a lot. :usa7uh:

First E92 and now this car prove that BMW can still make elegant cars after many years of controversial designs.

Re: New E70 X5 Photos Out!

Sheesh dude, it's soo nice to see that you're still around and part of the ol' clan. I haven't necessarily been as active in the posting stakes but I still miss that cool, classy blend of Gene's insight into the motoring world.

So, watcha think of the new X5 eh?

This seem to be a worthy replacement for X5. Im kind of busy now but I will look more closely later. But so far :usa7uh:

The images were too big so i resized them and uploaded them. Hope it's better for everyone now.:usa7uh:

I like it..especially interior..Stearing wheel is just to great, among other great stuff..But,why is the car in grey(or is it silver,I don´t know)???My god,it should be black or blue or even red..but not silver..:t-banghea

Cool and classy? If only! haha. Well my 2 cents since you asked .... I must admit that there is always a sense of disappointment with its design, mainly because of the controversial/bold changes to cars like the 7er and 5er, so there'll always be a sense of what could have been. I guess the public, motoring world and myself have this sudden expectation that BMW should bring out controversial, love or hate designs - and when the don't there is an uproar. Shows that you can't please everybody.

Nonetheless I do like the design in general. As with most BMW's, the 3/4 view in pictures doesn't look very good (but probably will do in real life), I really like the side profile, and the rear has become very X3's - which isn't exactly a bad thing (particularly with the facelift model). One thing I do really like is the crease along the side. Something about the crease makes it refreshingly new, yet quite familiar with the 3er. In fact there are quite a few strong resembelences to many models in the BMW range.

In the end, I guess the reality is that there isn't much to say about the design because of its familiarity, so I suspect it won't get as much attention in the threads as, say, the 5 series or 7 series.

I do like the design more than the Q7. The Q7 is a good car (saw it about 1 week ago), but I feel the front is far too busy with fins here and lights there. Some would say there has been a role reversal between Audi and BMW with the Q7 and X5 - usually Audi is very much known for their design simplicity, and BMW for their controversial designs. But hey, I'm sure there was a reasoning behind it.

As for the rangie sport you mentioned in your previous post, I've been seeing them around Auckland alot lately! I do like the car, BUT its another car with the feeling of what could have been... if they had done a 4 door translation of the range rover stormer... now that would have been a SUV.

I retrospect: I do love those wheels, they look like the prefacelift x5, but so much bolder!

wow, i must say it's ammmmmmmazing...however, it looks more like a heavy facelift rather than an (all new generation)

On retrospect, after seeing the direct comparison above, I do think that most normal people will recognize this as a newer model as opposed to a facelift. Of course the styling isn't as extreme as previous BMW models, but the newer model seems alot cleaner and simplier, where everything seems to flow together more harmoniously. I never noticed how busy the E53 is in its design, particularly the front bumper and down the sides. Not too sure if anyone would understand, but to me (after seeing the E70), the E53 design seems to be forced to be made muscular and aggro, like the E70 seems to be naturally muscular and aggro.

I think one thing about the new design is that they've retained the unmistakeble X5ish design features, but have evolved it to a point where most people will recognize it as a new model. If this is the right thing to do, we'll see when the sales figures come out... after letting the design settle in and if I were to choose purely on design merit out of the E53 and E70, it definitely would be the E70.

Oh and the engine bay looks like a big heart:

Or a spaceship.

I studied the car more closely now. I love it. good improvement.

I wish there was info about the car in english though, like a pressrelese..

I think the new X5 is a very successful interpretation of the old X5's design. All the typical and recognizable X5 elements (like the front, the shape of the rear lights, the muscular side profile, the layered dashboard layout, ...) were reworked as they should have been... except for the headlights... The line on top of the lights starts like it should - aggressive and sharp - but when it reaches the blinker part, it makes a rather awkward turn to the bottom, much like the X3's lights (which I like just as little). The bottom line of the headlights on the other hand is just too linear. But maybe I'll have to wait till the time I see the new X5 in real life. The headlights are bothering me the most when I look at the car straight from the front. Other than that, no complaints ;) The interior seems very well built, the wood used for the trim is much nicer than in the 5 series, the rims are beautiful as always and the car looks fresh and modern in comparison to his direct competitors... :eusa_clap

El Zorro I agree with you. The car has really made it through as an evolutionary design and it really looks good. I love it! I was skepctical with the other pictures from the other thrad, but these look really good. The car has maintained its masculinity and it truly resembles, what I think, an X5 should look like.
