My GTI... Finally

My com just crashed after writing a long post :t-banghea

Well let me try to recap.

For the past few years since the MkV GTI was launched, I was infatuated. I kept talking about the car, how it was receiving rave reviews and how awesome its engine was. I think I must have bored my family and friends till no end. Now, every desire, reckless passion, unrequited love and longing has been fulfilled - I have finally bought the dream car of my own. Friends always ask me, 'If you had all the money in the world, what car would you buy?' And instinctively the GTI comes to mind. I cannot think of any other better all-rounder than this motor which offers power, practicality, frugality, good handling and image all in one package.

On the first day of ownership I did about 300km to make sure the car's working fine and also to explore the malleability of this car's abilities. Whether it's on the highway cruising or sedate driving around the city or attacking the B-roads at speed, the GTI is relentless in its abilities and excels in every area. At speed, the car is quiet on the highway. In the city, its DSG gearbox works magnificently, only offering very slight jerks on gear 1-2 in start-stop traffic. And the B-roads? Simply heartstopping performance. This car goes like a happy camper and the pull from the mTm tuned 272bhp, 370Nm engine is endless. It can easily go above 200km/h and while its fast, its civilised too. Its exhaust is actually softer than stock when on idle and low rpms. Only with open throttle does it sound louder. Best of all, the mTm turboback exhaust is street legal. Fuel consumption is great too, I averaged 10.5L/100km for the 300km journey with a mix of hard driving and the freeway of about 50/50.

The Michelin PS2 tyres grip with panache but offers a playful slide to the rear when powering out of a corner. Of course, with FWD there are limitations and one has to be careful when entering a corner. The AP racing brakes are also very effective. One at first may be overwhelmed by its sensitivity; however with familiarity using these big brakes are a cinch. They offer confidence with every stopping situation and I can't ask for more.

The 18" rims unexpectedly goes very well with the car; I initially thought the car lost some of its GTI character. But it looks chunky and increases the presence of the car IMO.

Overall, a very satisfied owner. If you are still sitting on the fence for a GTI now, don't hesitate no longer. This car would probably be the best decision you make in years.

Feel free to ask me any questions while I post photos...

Low mileage for a 3 year old car... :eusa_danc

I'm in love. :t-cheers:

Very nice car!!

And a very very nice tuning company! MTM:0vr:

If you ever plan for new rims, either MTM Bimoto rims or BBS (they both look stunning on Gtis)

Many safe miles man and enjoy them safely but fast;)

Next 'mod' - to replace the head unit with a touchscreen that looks as OEM as possible. I can't really bear to part so much money for the RNS510 so some aftermarket solution would have to do. Coincidentally, this solution is done by a GTI owner and fits VWs only - designed locally. I have full confidence in him as our ideologies are the same - a refusal to get ripped off by the official dealer. :D

Thank you! mTm is great but their products are expensive. The mods alone are worth almost 1/7th the price of the car. :eusa_doh: But they are totally worth it. mTm oozes quality and German engineering and I believe they can last as long as the car itself.

Those are indeed nice rims if I intend to change them. Fits the mTm mods too.

Suppose if you got a original RNS510 fitted you would know its the business and not a rip off which may go wrong:eusa_doh:

Hope all goes well anyway:usa7uh:

The more and more I look at your car the more I'm liking it, racing seats, racing steering wheels, DSG gear box:D

Btw tell your friend from me his A6 looks sweet!

You're right; however, this guy who does the HU is a true-blue techie and he installed it on his car too. So if there any problems his car would have issues too. The RNS is simply too expensive. Would cost at least SGD10k if it had the same functionalities as the aftermarket solution.

... Or maybe I should just install an iPod jack and be content. :eusa_thin

Anyway, more about the A6, the multitronic gearbox impressed me in how the way it doesn't feel like a CVT at all. It shifts gears like an automatic, there is minimal feel of that 'elasticity' and the engine pulls well in the low-end. Probably the biggest surprise for me yesterday.

Stunning car!! Looks great, especially with those rims – one of the best 18' in the VW production line!! Can really imagine, how this car goes with it's 272 hp! How is the traction of the FWD GTI with so many horsepower?!

Many many happy miles with it and a lot of fun with every drive…!

Then, what do you call my 50 000 km with my 8 year old A4? ;)

I'm owned. :D

What other car do you drive then?!

Even my lightly used Miata from '91 has about 172,000km on it.

The tyres are key. On lousy tyres, even stock they screech and spin already. These Michelin PS2s grip very well and so far I hadn't had any traction issues. :usa7uh:
