On thursday night at about 8 pm my friend lost control of his car and hit a tree head on. He hit the tree head-on at over 70 mph. He sustained a concusion after the crash and now he is doing fine. He says he is lucky the he didn't pick up his daughter or she would have been involed in the crash. The accident ouccured only 10 min. away from his home. The car he was driving was a 2003 Mercedes CL55 Amg. He was lucky he was driving a safe Mercedes Benz, because he would have been killed if he was driving a drifferent car. The CL55 is compeletly distroyed. He is still in the hospital, he is alright now.

I took some Pictures of the damage yesterday:

Very unfortunate for him. The car doesn't look too bad though. Will it be repaired or taken to the scrap yard??

The frame of the car is completely distroyed and the engine block is cracked, so it's probabaly going to the scrap yard. :(

Glad to know that he is alright now but damn it hurts so much seeing a gorgeous CL55 in that shape:(:(

Glad he is okay.

When no one is looking. Take the supercharger, control modules and any interior pieces that are still good.

One step ahead of you, I replaced my living room recliner with the driver seat and the navigation is my new Tv. jk, LOL. I'll see if i could get the supercharger and some parts though, I can probably get some money off of it on ebay.;)

I guess it's best to take it sell it to a dealer or mechanic and let them butcher it for spare parts. There some good money in that wreck.

Glad hes okay but what an idiot!!!!:eusa_doh:

Hope hes in good shape after the crash, hope I could say same about the same but it's a write-off:(

P.s Can I have that engine Cover?:D

Good to know your friend is fine, crash safety engineers have said that people will most likely not survive any car crash into a solid object at above 80km/h.

I am also surprised by how well the car hold up. It doesn't look like the car had a head on collusion with a tree.

^MB uses high strength steel used, that's why the CL is that heavy:D

Glad to hear he survived.

Interestingly you can see where the crash energy was dissipated around the passenger cell of the car. The rear of the roof is buckled and one side of the rear bumper was either pulled off during removal of the wreck or popped off during the crash. The glass meanwhile didn't even crack. You can clearly see where the tree (not a very large one though) went into the bumper/hood area and that the engine took a huge hit. I think Mercedes and Volvo do this type of crash, one that isn't simulated or developed for a lab, better than anyone else. Let’s face it; everyone except the Chinese can develop a car to pass a lab crash test, but real world accidents is where the proof lies.

This CL though is a goner. With the exotic build of this car and the extensive damage, to repair it would cost more than the car itself.

If it had to happen, why wasn't that the new CL and not the old one? :t-banghea:t-banghea:t-banghea

Sorry to hear/see that...

:t-cheers:

That looks like a way slower hit than 70 mph... maybe trees in NJ are not as hard they are here in Sweden ;-)

Completely unnecessary to call the driver an idiot or such same.

It can happen to anyone. Even very good drivers. We don't know the circumstances so the only mature sentiment is empathy. The car could've hit an oil patch, aqua-planed, swerved to avoid another vehicle (in doing so saving the other person's life).

You don't know, so don't judge. It's bad karma.

When it comes to driving fast cars, there are two types of drivers: those that have had an accident and those that are going to have an accident.

My commiserations and get well wishes to the driver.
