The TL I'm not sure about. The Honda "Legend" is our Acura RL. Our Acura TSX is the European Honda Accord, but I'm not sure if out TL will be sold as Honda overseas.

Nicely said! However I can't agree.

Some of the cars Lexus make have nothing in common with a Toyota, and even if they are not the most original and charismatic cars out there, it's not to deny that they fullfill their jobs admirably: being luxurious, well-equipped, silent, comfortable, and reliable. They're maybe not cars for enthusiastic car-lover and-knower, but they are excellent cars nonetheless.

The biggest reproach is the "psychotic fanbase", but... this can be said for some other brands, including a famous German one with a white and blue logo... Or maybe the aggressive and deceiving marketing.

I agree with you, the cars are good enough, but dull. I think you nailed it when you say that they are not for the car loving enthusiasts, because there is nothing to love, again, it needs personality. This also reflects my other point, the issue with the fanatic fanbase, I have always thaught it easier to endure the knowledgable fanboys than those who are not. Even if the Audi fanboys can be very annoying (you must have meant them, right?;)), they are for the most part genuinely interested in cars.

Maybe it is just me who have had exceptionally bad experiences with the Toyota-Lexus fanboys - sounding like 16 y.o. without a clue...

I dislike Cadillac for a myriad of reasons. First and foremost though - globally irrelevant.

Great point what Chris made before but hasn't Audi only really made a recent pull up to all the the main German brand (Mercedes and BMW)??

But I voted for Lexus because most of the car look like barges:usa7uh: Apart from the Is-f (I love that)

Re: Most Hated Luxury Brand

Like many, i don't hate any of these brands, they are all respectable, that being said i reckon i have a problem with Cadillac and monster perfectly said why

but IMO throwing heaps of leather and fake wood inside the car doesn't make it a true luxury brand.

I have more faith in corean automakers to do a proper prenium car than in Cadillac.

Re: Most Hated Luxury Brand

Well it seems like we have a lot of "Caddy-haters" ;)

Re: Most Hated Luxury Brand

I despise their products because they are not worthy of being considered as rivals to the real luxury brands.

Re: Most Hated Luxury Brand

I have not you decided what brand I dislike the most. To me the American or americanized brands are, however, not luxurious in the same way that the European are. Not saying they are not as good but they are built with other tings in mind..

Cadillac was once a world-revered marque (particularly before WW2) -- but things did start to go wrong in the late 1960s-'70s.

Cadillac once represented all the optimistic idealism of American pop culture.
Any manufacturer which produced such iconic vehicles as these (below) is worthy of some respect I think.

Re: Most Hated Luxury Brand

Believe me Rob, i just adore these cars and this makes the whole thing even more painful. I don't dislike Cadiallac cause it's cadillac, that would be stupid and like you pointed out they produced some real marvels. But let's be honest, american automotive industry has been for years & years in a very bad shape in term of cars intraseque quality, they have procuded shitty cars after shitty cars and i am certainly not going to say: Hey they were once leading the entire industry, so let's respect these monumental brands. If Merc & BMW keep making crap cars genration after generation, it would also be right to despise them. I don't admire cars cause they are german , i admire germans cause their cars are brillant.

When i first saw the title of this thread i had a big grin on my face as i kn ew for sure that Lexus would trump all the brands mentioned:D

I like hearing the opinion of others on this subject. The reasons of "why" are very interesting. :t-cheers:

In regards to Cadillac and Lincoln, they have history and heritage and were also innovative for their time. Furthermore their cars were desirable prior to World War II and a bit thereafter. I remember my mother and father telling me about how the only luxury cars you could buy in the Philippines in the 1960s and 1970s were American as they were sold locally. European luxury cars were imported and this was very costly.

Compared to the achievements of the European premium brands, their history might seem a bit stale (little motorsport involvement, although some GM brands and Ford have a respectable motorsport record and heritage), but they have history and heritage. To me, this is essential for a luxury brand. It gives the buyer a reason to buy the cars, an emotional reason.

For example, a young boy growing up in 1950s Germany would have been fascinated with the Mercedes race cars kicking butt at the French Grand Prix in 1954 and thus he becomes attracted to the brand. He aspires to own a Mercedes one day, be it an upcoming 300SL or a lowly 34-horsepower 170D. Eventually, this person might find himself to be in the financial position to buy himself a Mercedes one day - and he will, because to him it is an emotional buy, a connection to his youth and something he has always desired. Most European premium brands (and even some mainstream) fit this scenario in one way of the other. The American luxury brands can fit this scenario with a few changes to the story. The Japanese luxury brands have ZERO relation to such a story. And this is what makes them unappealing to me. When I buy a luxury car there has to be an interesting story behind the brand. Something interesting, something that demonstrated involvement in motorsport competitions or setting and breaking speed records, innovation etc. Again, the European and American luxury brands fit this description, the Japanese do not. There is zero emotional appeal for buying a Lexus, Acura or Infiniti, despite them all being good cars. Some people like the value they offer and the gadgets, but I prefer to have a luxury car from a brand with heritage. It plays on my emotions I suppose.

Furthermore, what did the founders of Benz, Daimler, Jaguar, BMW, Cadillac, Lincoln, Horch (Audi), Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Renault, Citroen, Peugeot, Skoda, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Maybach, Maserati, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc. have in common? According to Jeremy Clarkson (read his book Clarkson on Cars):

1) A Vision

2) Passion

They envisioned their cars to carry their name (or a name) and they passionately set to work on fulfilling that dream and making it come true.

Sure, Mr. Toyoda had a vision of creating a fine luxury sedan that would rival the worlds best, but behind that vision was the desire to make money and steal away market share from the Germans. When the car was a new invention, this wasn't necessarily the case as inventors and innovators seemed to create and invent because they had fun doing what they did. Karl Benz loved working on motor engines and improving them. Wilhelm Maybach was obsessed with perfecting the carburator etc. There was passion in their work. I don't see this with Lexus. When they claim they passionately are trying to perfect cars it is just a bunch of marketing. An attractive slogan to makes clueless people go "Yeah Lexus rocks!!!" :D

Thanks for listening. :t-cheers:

Have you sat in or driven a new CTS?

It has come a long way, far better than any lexus I have sat in. Prime leather supple to the touch, handsome wood details, and a performance to match the Germans. Cadillac is by far one of my favourites now after the Germans.

What's up with the Lexus hate. I for one like the brand, the IS and LS are good cars and the LF-A is a highly promising car.

what a positive little poll you've got going here.

Hate is too strong a word for it ...but the new Acura TL is truly laughable.
SO sensitive Rob.... :D

Just made the thread because it just seemed of late that every thread I read had comments about 'Lexus this, lexus that'

Anyways I chose Acura, since unlike Lexus who has some vision and boldness by designing unique car from Toyota and performance minded vehicles. Acura Just slaps a badge on a Honda every 10 years or so when a 'new model' comes out.

I pretty much hate Caddy and Lexus... but between the 2, I'd rather drive a Lexus, so Caddy got my vote.

I also hate Acura, but since it's only a faux-luxury brand, it shouldn't even be there ;)
