as far as i know you need to engage the clutch in first gear in fromula 1
in SMG we have a traditional manual but instead of having the user engaging the clutch with his food, a robot does it for you every tme you change gear
in tiptronic and other relative its a normal automativ with torque converter but with the option to move through gears althouth the gerbox computer doesn't allow you to do as pleased all the time to safeguard the box (look at it as in having P R N D 6 5 4 3 2 1)
dual clutch are like SMG's except that they have 2 clutches one for odd gears another for even which means at any time 2 gears are simultaneously engaged
f1 boxes are similar in operation to SMG's but they use more exotic materials
