MINI SAV: Spy Pics & Info

The MINI Speedster and the MINI -X SAV reflect different sides to the MINI brand. The MINI-X SAV is a compact little SAV very urban like , it's the kind of car you can take to the city and indeed city based indoor snow slopes. MINI-X begins the first example of a product that will define further family concepts for MINI. The MINI SpaceBox Concept has officially been given approval for a design concept that will further seperate the approach from mainstream choices for vehicles with more passion , flexibility and a great image - which is basically what MINI offers the customer.
A 5dr MINI in the form of an individual concept like the SpaceBox would offer a new stylish insight into a family motivated choice instead of a traditional mainstream MPV or hatch.

The brand will reach it's pinacle with the inclusion of the MINI Speedster.
Originally an idea with the first generation MINI which did not make it to production purely because MINI was yet to establish itself , by then the timing was too late with BMW only investing in a Cabrio and the MINI GP.
Now with the current MINI platform we have seen the Cabrio and Clubman , but we know the highest percentage of cabrio buyers are female so what for the male customer?

Purely based on the Cabrio for reasons of economy of scale the Speedster is lower has unique design features to identify it as a MINI but seperate it from the cabrio and that includes the loss of the rear passenger compartment substituted with built in roll over hoops ajoined to twin butresses on the rear deck. The front screen is shorter and raked back for a typical Speedster appearance , sporty and dynamic. With amplification of the Go-Kart feeling to produce an exciting dynamic small sports car.
A fixed roof Coupe model has been designed and is under consideration.

Engines will be taken from the current MINI which will include the possibility of a JCW Speedster. To define it's "amplification" of MINI there will be very vibrant colour choices such as bright metallics - Orange , The return of a Gold color which reminds me of the E46 M3 Pheonix Yellow , a vibrant metallic Lime Green aswell as interiors to match. Customers who would prefer less exposure can endure themselves to some of the traditional MINI choices.

It's a car that could do well with further integration of the image of MINI to customers who might want something exciting enough that they never previously considered the MINI brand. Especially older customers who might be partial to the Speedster as an interpretation of those classic British Sports cars driving along say- Highway one in California , either during the day or at sunset with the roof open and the occupants exposed to the elements.

It is an interesting choice that defines the MINI brand as a maker of premium small cars that surpass all coventional choices.
Although a concept will be shown at the IAA. Apart from the standard for the show cosmetic finish it will be the finished production model. Sales should begin early 2011.

You might see it sooner as it is going on holiday soon to Copacabana Beach.

thx
now we only need a british racing green uni color à la WorldChampion 50 Edition and the color line up is perfect

i wouldn't consider myself as an "old customer" but i really like this scenario

btw what plant is considered for the speedster, oxford seems to be the right place(as its using mini cabrio components) - but oxford is also reported to be at its maximum already

Wow a MINI designed and geared specifically towards males? I like! Gabe from Motoringfile (a must daily hit for any true MINI enthusiast) spoke on the last episode of whiteroof radio mentioning a price-point for the speedster being just at or above a MINI Cooper S cabrio.

Is the Spacebox suppose to more a five-door cooper? That's the impression I'm getting.

MINI Crossover = Project Colorado :usa7uh:

I still don't know what the final trademark be ... MINI X, Xman, Crossman, Colorado, Moke etc.

No trademark has been registered yet.

Could you put in a word and make it twin engined? :D

The great thing about these prototypes are that several are not carrying the typical MINI Cladding around the wheel arches and skirts, leading to many complaints on the forums with it looks too skinny , too tall etc.
The production car will of course see the Typical MINI cladding which will bring the car up to the proportions of the MINI Crossover Concept car giving at a really urban beefy chunky look for a small CrossOver. This MINI Crossover is just over 4 meters long and it's really compact looking in real life.
Like the X1 we will offer a rear wheel drive model for urbanites who do not want the typical SAV look.

The good thing is that marketing have kept both the X1 and MINI-X seperate in their marketing concepts but aiming at the same demographic.

I'm not entirely sure about that boxy Volvo design. I know the car is small and needs to be ugly-tall in the front, but this...

its hard to say
but this car isn't really convincing me
the proportions are nice(for a suv) (especially in the frog 3/4 view), but it looks like a bully
the ground-clearance is also ...sad... but its a city suv(which is nonsense on its own)
i don't doubt that its going to be successful, but making it a simple PAS right away would have suited the brand better(at least thats what i think)

Mini Crossman S

Is Mini Crossman going to be released as 2011 or 2010 model? Will the 4 wheel drive model be released concurrently? Cooper style tailgate opening is much better idea than asymmetric side-way tailgate from Crossman Concept! Loved the overall proportion.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
