Which looks more like a ricer?

It's funny how all the BMW guys are calling the BS a ricer...LOL. I guess form follows function means nothing to die-hard BMW fans. :D
M3 CSL is the perfect example of the form follows function, not the BS. There's nothing there ( and certainly not the engine ) that requires such an overdone body.

The Black needs the body it has,its not overdone. The wider wheels need the extended wheel arcs, the engine needs max cooling as AMG expects people to take this to a track hence the massive air vents on the from bumper and the engine cover. The spoiler is needed for max down force.

So what is in this car that is overdone ?
Just because this is a Mercedes and BMW fans(the naive ones)cannot swallow it doesn't mean it a badly done ricer of a car.

PS:I was also fooled by the wording in the polls. My vote is Neither. Please someone change it

Let me quote what Cawimmer said and he isnt exactly a BMW guy:

Cawimmer:
"The SL looks more like a ricer to me."

Now I suggest people read the headline "Mercedes SL Black Series vs. R8 TDI V12". So leave bmw out of this for once ;)
First people dont read the poll question closely and now this....

Everything is overdone, they can make wide wheel archs but not that wide, they can put massive air vents and make them look less ricey, (if ferrari and others are doing it then why not them). The car sure does look like a monster but don't tell me it's the form follow function, it's simply a design choice.

So I'm guessing you worked on this car? I guess the AMG engineers only worked on the exterior. May be next time they'll call all of you and ask how to build a car.

It's sad that when MB does something extreme it's called "ricey" by the guys who would swear on their lives that their brand did it only for functionality. Right...:t-cheers:

Just_Me...I didn't bring BMW brand into this. I brought the fanboys into it...LOL. The reason I said what I said is because were a few posts calling the SL ricey with people who have BMW in their name. :usa7uh:

Storebrand...Yes, I'm so biased towards MB that I have a BMW represented in my sig. Also, I'm the biggest M3 fan on this site, by my calculations of course. LOL :D

Well, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Just like Cawimmer is so are the bimmer boys.
Personally I dont think SL65 BS is a beautiful car either. But I wouldnt buy this car because of a goodlooking design so I dont care much if it looks like a ricer or not.

I apologize NarutoRamen if you thought my post was judgemental, it wasn't my intent to stir any waves! What I should of said is, the previous SL had a sporty classiness about it, I feel as if the Black Series cheapins the SL image imo...:)

Explain please.

My views are niether are ricers because a ricer, by my definition is a car that uses elements that make it appear like something its not. Example, all those Honda Civics with (sleek looking or tacky looking) body kits and wings that would suggest the car should perform much better than a normal Civic. Then when you run into one on the road all you notice is a car that struggles to keep pace with a soccer moms minivan while making a noise loud enough to make your ears bleed. I think we can all agree that niether the Audi or Merc will show these attributes.

Getting back to the SL BS. I think it has earned the right to be a staple car for other marks to go by if they were interested in creating a semi-track edition of their car; and yes, it most certainly goes by the ideals of "form follows function"

On the basis of what? looks or yet unknown track performance?

SL BS is definitely not a ricer imo, but to call it a benchmark for track performance before any tests is way too premature.

I believe the press release said 7.46 for N-ring, and I think I remember reading reports of it lapping 7.37 when it was testing. So I'm basing this on whatever I read.

It's impressive when you realise its nearly 30 seconds faster than the car it was based from.

Edit: and this is no track special when it still arrives with all the creature comforts the original had minus the folding roof.

SL65 was a pig, even slower than SL55 around the ring. While the fact that MB managed to make the BS 30 secs faster than that is impressive, that is not a benchmark by itself for wider field of cars.

No need to apologize man. I was just joking. Hence the :D at the end of my post. C'mon man...we're all friends here, and I love to play the devil's advocate some times. LOL :D

No body is saying it's a bench mark, but you still have to give them credit for building it. Let's not doubt them. If they built this car on an old chassis with all the creature comforts and still gave it that time around the 'Ring, I'm sure they could do a lot better had they built it from scratch. That's why I'm looking forward to the SLC or whatever it will be called. :t-cheers:

BTW...I apologize to all those who are getting annoyed by me defending the SL65BS. You have to understand that it's been a long time since a car has came out that has caught be by surprise.
