S-Class Mercedes-Maybach S600 Previewed

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.

S600 pricing to be announced on December 18

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 will be sold alongside two additional versions, S500 and S400 MATIC.

Mercedes-Benz officially resurrected the Maybach name yesterday with an extra-long wheelbase S600 and now we have learned two additional versions will be offered: S500 and S400 4MATIC. The former is powered by a bi-turbo V8 4.7-liter engine developing 455 HP (335 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) while the latter gets a V6 3.0-liter motor with 333 HP (245 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) sent to an all-wheel drive system.

Sales chief Ola Kaellenius says pricing for the S600 variant with its +200mm extended wheelbase will be disclosed on December 18 and that it will be cheaper than the defunct Maybach 57. He was asked by the media whether there will be a successor for the Maybach 59 and his answer was "we shall see", but we already know a Pullman version is on the way.

There are also some talks about the GL (soon to become GLS) getting the same treatment but Kaellenius said for the moment there aren't any plans for a Maybach SUV.

@SDNR

Why call what I said old, if you look at the interior it matches perfectly with the exterior of the render I posted, I bet the actual car will be all but identical.

Oops

I'm sorry Rob, I didn't realise I'd done that. I was using an iPad and obviously touched the button by mistake.

I fixed it.

I hope I haven't done that to anybody else

I think they incorrectly called the S600 Pullman's previous Maybach version 59, it should be Maybach 62 refering to the 6.2meter length. There were 2 models of the previous standard MAybach the 57 and 62, with a special more powerful 57S and 62S models.

Why can't they just have one version of the s-class maybach ..go all out with one grande version
Three versions are just to much for the so-called top of the line s-class..just weird

only 200mm extra leg room ! Really Thats all to it? Other than ofcourse the name and material ...

I hope they have managed to increase the power of the rear Air con, they have not moved the air vents closer to the rear passengers for some reason ...

So "Maybach" is going to be the ultra-lux arm of M-B? If they apply some of that Maybach magic to a GLS (nee GL), they'd give the RR Autobiography and upcoming Bentley SUV a good run for their money.

Great idea. Maybach can become the luxury equivalent of AMG.

"Don't worry about the Phantom it will remain iconic as it always has been and will "up the game" in its next incarnation.
The next Phantom breaks the boundaries on how a luxury product or object can be perceived.
In construction , technology , drivetrain, sustainability, comfort and design.
The four model programme will continue but will involve Spectre the code name for a vehicle that will not only show the ability of Rolls-Royce in exclusivity but further push the goalposts from their competitors."

BLAA BLAA, yAWN....anything from BMW should be taken as a grain of salt..remember M not doing 4x4...lol..

Perhaps you should go back in your time machine.

The Mercedes Blog is speculating on the price thusly: :)

Like in the case of the AMG versions which are more expensive than the normal versions, the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 will cost around 10,000-15,000 more than the S 600 extra-long version. This means that we should expect a price level of around 165,000-170,000 euro for the S 600 Mercedes-Maybach.

The Head of China must have told the product planners in Stuttgart the China market could buy hundreds of these Maybachs annually if there is a sub-4-liter engined models and hence the S400 4-Matic. I can see the 5-Star hotels in Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, and other 1st and 2nd tier cities buying a lot of the S400 Maybachs.

I go to China every week and I have rode on the LWB E260L and I have to say it is great. I have yet to ride in a LWB C Class though.

A lot of those Hotels are LWB Phantom customers do you really think they will go down market to a Mercedes?

Apart from the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong and the Venetian in Macau, I am not aware of another 5-star hotel that possesses a fleet of Rolls-Royces. But almost all of them have multiple S Class limos. It's not a case of going down market at all, it just makes sense having a selection of limos.

Also The Penisular in Shanghai and Beijing, the Louis XIII in Macau just bought 30, including 2 of the most expensive Phantoms yet built. Why would it make sence having a selection of limos? If a customer is used to a Phantom and an S Class turned up at the airport I'd consider it a downgrade and possibly a slight.

My favourite hotel in the World is the Peninsula Hong Kong, although when I last had the Rolls limo transfer they were still using the old Silver Spirit. That was May 2005.

I suppose if you insist on being chauffeured in a Rolls, then that's fine. But the rear seats of a Maybach looks a much better place to be than that of a Phantom.

Yes, I agree ........if I were travelling some distance then the Mercedes would most likely be more comfortable.

However, the Phantom is the car you "arrive" in .........it's all about making the grand entrance.

There is an entire thread on flyertalk dedicated to hotels with RR cars, I'm pretty surprised at how many have them, a lot more than I thought.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
