So,if I understood your post correctly,raoul..MB doesn´t offer LSD on their AMG models except if customer wants it installed as option?Hmm,,thats rather strange :eusa_thin ..I was under the impression that all AMG models(atleast new ones)have LSD as standard equipment..it would be logical cause these cars are considered to be perfomance machines, not regular ppl transports :usa7uh: .

I think it is because there is no word in German for lsd, they say Sperrdifferential (locker) or Haldex-Kupplung, Torsen-Kupplung...

Sperrdifferential is the generic word I think, for LSD and for lockers. So they sometimes translate it in locking diff, but it is a LSD.

I remeber, my Dad once had a Hilux... You had to lock the front wheels by hand...and you could not drive reverse, because it made a boig *KLONK* and unlocked the front wheels (it is the central differential that you locked, I think, because you activated the front wheels by doing that? I don't know if it locked the front wheels together, I think it only locked the front to the rear wheels, whereas the rear wheels had a LSD)...

No AMG model has an LSD if you don't take it as an option.

Because it is more difficult to drive, it will drift much more with a LSD because both wheels spin so the whole rear train loose traction and drift quicker and with a wider radius, so increased risk of spinning the car. Without LSD, only the interior wheel spins so it drifts not as much. You have to go very hard to spin a modern car without LSD.

Of course for a more skilled driver, the drift is more controllable with LSD, the car much more fun to drive, and the much better traction will give you better acceleration, better cornering speed, and less ESP intervention.

Now they offer it as an option, the 030 Performance Package.

But before, in 2003 for instance, you had no 030 for you E55. So you could go to Sindelfingen and AMG retrofitted the LSD on your car and adapted the ESP to the LSD.
