SL 43 AMG (232.450) / AMG GT 43 Coupé:

As in the C 43 AMG 4matic + , the new M254 2.0 liter 4-cylinder with 390 hp and overboost are used. In addition, he has the new AMG E-Turbo of the medium 8 PS E-machine (48 volts) to fill the turbo lag on the turbocharger shaft. There is a 48 volt 20 HP ISG (integrated starter generator) in the bell housing. The use of a 4-cylinder may be surprising, but the current Jaguar F-Type P300 also uses 4-cylinders.

SL 53 4matic + (232.451) / AMG GT 53 4matic + Coupé:

The setting here is similar to that of the 43er. Here, however, the M139 4-cylinder is used. Coupled here also with the electric AMG turbocharger and here also with the variable 4matic + all-wheel drive. The output is around 450 hp. Instead of a 48 volt ISG with 20 hp, a 400 volt ISG version could be used here.

SL 53e 4matic + (232.452) / AMG GT 53e 4matic + Coupé:

The concept was hotly debated on the C 63e S 4matic +. The M139 4-cylinder petrol engine is used. The 9G-Tronic with 4matic + distributes the power to all 4 wheels (fully variable between the front and rear axles). There is also an electric motor on the rear axle (P3 layout) . The electrical range will be around 60 km. The system performance at just over 500 hp.

SL 63 4matic + (232.481) / AMG GT 63 4matic + Coupé:

This engine combination is already well known. M177 4.0 liter V8 BiTurbo combined with a 21 PS ISG (48 volts) and 612 PS from the combustion engine ensure a sprint to 100 km / h in around 3.5 s (AMG GT Coupé approx. 3.4 s)

SL 73e 4matic + (232.482) / AMG GT 73e 4matic +:

This variant has already been announced for the medium-term AMG GT 4-door (X290) for mid-2021. It is the same configuration as for the SL 53e only that the 4.0 liter V8 BiTurbo is used here. Its performance is paired with a P3 plug-in hybrid (electric motor on the rear axle) and could deliver up to 800 hp.

The AMG GT-73e 4-door (X290) will start the AMG plug-in hybrid variants in mid-2021. The variant in the new S-Class (W / V223) will follow at the end of 2021. The new C 63e AMG 4matic + will arrive in early 2022 . The SL 53e and SL 73e will not come to customers until 2022.

With a Mercedes SL plug-in hybrid and AMG GT plug-in hybrid, Mercedes and AMG will be significantly earlier than their colleagues from Zuffenhausen from 2022. Their 911 plug-in hybrid with more than 700 hp should only come to the end of the life cycle of the 992 series in 2025/2026.

Overall, you will be surprised about a 4-cylinder in the SL or AMG GT Coupé. But as a prospect or customer you think from today's perspective. However, Mercedes-AMG must also keep in mind that the 2021 (SL) and 2022 (AMG GT) vehicles come onto the market and that they then have to comply with legal requirements and fleet consumption for another 5-6 years. Against this background, the decision is understandable. In terms of “sporty” and “light”, a light four-cylinder on the front axle is not so bad either. A 4-cylinder will never be able to match the “lightness of being” of an SL 500 (R231) with V8.

Terrible lineup of engines for a sporty group of supposed to be premium, high-end Mercedes models. All these over-stressed 4-cylinders and no I6 is just plain retard, I don't care what the environment or regulations are. Really shitty cars coming up from Mercedes. You're forced to buy a SL63 just to get a real engine.

Terrible lineup of engines for a sporty group of supposed to...
The automotive lobby managed to push further the concept of the hybrid cars. The absolutely unrealistic fuel consumption values, which the authorities accepted, allows the manufacturers to protect the jobs of all involved in the production of engines and transmissions, while simultaneously fulfilling (only on paper) the eco requirements. The BMW hybrid 7er was shifted from a 4 cylinder in the 740e to a six in the 745e, while simultaneously the fuel consumption and emissions were reduced. So the choice of a four cylinder is not due to the regulations.

Mercedes have no reason not to use the inline 6 from the 53 series but add some high powered electric motors and batteries and make them PHEV, which would help with reducing emissions even further, but they want to go the cheap route and maximize on the highly stressed and less refined 4 cylinder from the A45, which is not a good idea and is a bad image maker for its expensive SL and GT range

Betwen B and V class, or 7 seat B class? Now cutting B class dont make any sense at all beacuse selling of this will be even worse. Sometimes Daimler makes stupid moves.

Mercedes-Benz Vans is provider of vehicles in the small-, mid- and large-size van segments, fulfilling all customer requirements for a spacious space. Now, a small van platform will be used to create a new vehicle which is tailored to the needs of families whilst also being a suitable companion for active leisure enthusiasts. Like the V-Class, which is successfully positioned in the midsize segment, Mercedes-Benz Vans will also be offering a small van for private customers from the first half of 2022. The class designation of this new model is "T-Class."

"With the new Mercedes-Benz T-Class, we will offer a vehicle which makes it possible for families and those with active pastimes to step into the Mercedes-Benz world. These customers seek attractive and practical compact vehicles – and it is precisely these demands which the new T-Class fulfils", says Marcus Breitschwerdt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

"With the T-class’s new layout and design we achieve a fusion of functionality and desirability", says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler Group. "With our unique design philosophy of Sensual Purity we create an attractive family companion being the T-Class inspiring with its design, proportions and its perceived value."

Clear membership of the Mercedes-Benz family

As a completely new development, the T-Class will be clearly discernible at first glance as a member of the Mercedes-Benz family and will feature unmistakeably typical characteristics of the brand with the three-pointed star. Especially in terms of design, value, safety and connectivity, the new vehicle will bear the DNA of Mercedes-Benz.

New class, new concept

The private-customer market is the focus of the completely newly developed Mercedes-Benz T-Class. The T-Class will meet the needs of families and leisure-oriented people at an attractive price-value ratio. The letter T stands for efficient room concepts and is thus perfectly suited as a model designation for compact family vans bearing the three-pointed star.

The new Mercedes-Benz T-Class offers a large amount of space and is suited to a range of different uses, including passenger transportation as a reference within sharing services – all while not compromising on comfort. The wide-opening sliding doors on both the left and right-hand sides of the vehicle as an example allow easy and comfortable access to the interior. Alongside conventional drive systems, there will be also a fully electric version.

Mercedes-Benz Vans in the small van segment

In the small van segment, Mercedes-Benz Vans has been represented by the commercially positioned Citan since 2012. In August last year, the Vans division announced a successor to the compact urban delivery van, together with a fully-electric variant. Based on this small van platform, two vehicles will be created: while the Mercedes-Benz Citan is a no-compromise vehicle tailored to the requirements of commercial customers, the Mercedes-Benz T-Class is primarily focused towards private customers.

The T-Class and the Citan will be established in cooperation with Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi.

...Sometimes Daimler makes stupid moves....

Unfortunately, Daimler-Benz history is littered with "stupid moves", the origins and perpetuators of which of being varied . The inability to "sustainably" think forward and delusional meglomania are the common denominators that "connect" many top D-B managers. Niefer, Reuter, Schrempp, Zetsche have heavily stained vests. Advertising and public relation endeavours are often exercises in glibby pandering. Trying so hard to "be cool" will achieve precisely the opposite of that. I genuinely empathize with those who are responsible for the Hirnschmalz and elbow-grease in R&D and production. I certainly don't when it comes to arrogant, delusional so-called "managers". Of course, D-B does not stand alone with regard to German manufacturers, but the current muck in Untertürkheim appears to be the deepest. And up to 30,000 employees at D-B alone are now having worry-plagued, sleepless nights.

Horrible, with the demise of the 6-cylinder in the new AMG’s for the benefit of 4 cylinders it’s obvious they’re giving up on ICE. Thought this Porsche engineer mentioned that engines would grow in size actually to meet Euro7 standards? Would have hoped they’d keep the 6 and 8 cylinders which could be compensated by all these new BEV models to reduce average fleet emission.

It will be Kangoo with Merc badge. I just dont understand. Last week, handelsblatt reported about possibility of B class axe, saying that poor sales are big reason for it. "poor sales" for handelsblatt is 75 000 a year in europe and 90 000 with other markets.

Now watch this, Citan sold 32 000 in Europe from 2012 to 2020. So, 32 000 in 8 years and still get sucessor, why? Why if 90 000 a year is poor?

Just cant see customers for this type of car. If someone wants mpv like practical car, he buys B, more practical MPV is V glass...T class just dont make any sense and with renault like design it will probbably fail like X class.

I think this video gives us a good preview what we can expect of the Mercedes version.

Mercedes-Benz Argentina presents the Sprinter Chassis for the U.S market.

MERCEDES-BENZ-SPRINTER-CHASIS-1.webp

Mercedes-Benz Argentina confirmed on July 30th that the Buenos Aires plant in Virrey del Pino will export the chassis version of the 3rd generation Sprinter to the United States.

It is a highly sought-after product in the United States, where there is an important market for coach-builders who adapt solutions for all types of transport.

The United States is usually supplied by the Sprinter produced at the German Ludwigsfelde factory. Given the strong demand for the Chassis version, Mercedes-Benz USA - MBUSA decided to order units from the Argentine plant as well. Ludwigsfelde and Virrey del Pino are the only two Sprinter Chassis factories worldwide.

Mercedes-Benz is the first and only car maker in Argentina to export vehicles to the demanding market in the United States. The Juan Manuel Fangio Industrial Center is technologically prepared to supply the demand of any country. Quite an achievement for our company that will celebrate 69 years of uninterrupted industrial commitment in Argentina in 2020 ”, highlighted Manuel Mantilla, CEO of the local subsidiary.

The sticker on the windscreen says: "Mercedes-Benz first manufacturer in the country (Argentina) to export to the USA and Canada".

This will be the second time that Mercedes-Benz of Argentina exports the Sprinter to the USA. Between 2016 and 2017, ten thousand second-generation Argentinian made Sprinters were exported to the U.S market.

Mercedes-Benz Argentina press release
Mercedes-Benz will again export the Sprinter to the United States

Buenos Aires, July 2020.- Mercedes-Benz Argentina announced that it will export to the United States Sprinter units produced at the Juan Manuel Fangio Industrial Center, located in Virrey del Pino, La Matanza. This is a new production batch of the third generation of the Sprinter, Chassis version, which will be shipped at the end of the year and which is in addition to the more than 10,000 Sprinter (second generation) that have already been exported in recent years.

This shipment is part of the strategy set by the Daimler Corporation when it defined the local subsidiary as an export platform to new markets. In this regard, Manuel Mantilla, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Argentina, stated: “We continue to position ourselves in front of a milestone: Mercedes-Benz is the first and only local terminal to export units produced in Argentina to the demanding United States market. The Juan Manuel Fangio Industrial Center is technologically prepared to supply the demand of any country. Quite an achievement for our company that this year will celebrate 69 years of uninterrupted industrial commitment in Argentina”.

The product to be exported from Argentina will be the third generation of the Sprinter in its Chassis version, which then allows the installation of a bodywork according to the needs of each client. This shipment of Chassis will strengthen the supply to the United States from the Ludwigsfelde factory. This German plant together with the Argentine one are the only two Mercedes-Benz locations in the world that produce Sprinter in its Chassis version.

The third generation of the Sprinter was introduced locally in 2019 with an investment of more than $ 150 million. The Sprinter has more than two decades of outstanding experience in the Argentine market and now has more comfort, equipment, a new dimension in safety and renewed interior and exterior design. These units are expected to be produced from November.

The new Sprinter stands out for its greater versatility as its high number of options adapts to any need. In addition, our plant is being adapted to respond to compliance with the exclusive technical standards of the United States. The Buenos Aires team makes it possible to produce a utility vehicle with the same quality standards as in the rest of the Mercedes-Benz factories in the world. The Sprinter is the leader in its segment in most of the markets where it participates and with this third generation, Mercedes-Benz expects to continue with the excellent results ”, Mantilla concluded.

Electric Maybach Suggested By Daimler Top Brass

Filling in the demand for high-end EVs.

Mercedes-Benz is pretty keen on getting in on the market of high-end ultra-luxury vehicles that also happen to be zero emissions. True, those with the dough will find the choices lacking, with most ultra-luxury manufacturers still packing mild-hybrid or combustion engine options across their entire lineup. The plan is to make use of the Maybach name and get that branding together with variants of the EQS sedan that's finally debuting next year. Talking to Bloomberg, Chief Executive Officer Ola Kallenius says that they're pretty confident about the opportunity to take a big chunk of that specific market.

“There’s room to do more with the Maybach brand name,” Kallenius said. “The electric platform offers some opportunities.” This is part of Kallenius' supposed strategy to help bring back larger margins for Mercedes. Shifting large luxury cars towards an electric future will ensure higher profits that can be used to fund larger projects like new technology, software operations, and cover any restructuring costs.

Overall costs have gone down this year despite work on new vehicles packed with the latest goodies from Mercedes, such as the updated S-Class and the EQS. Kallenius credits this better capital performance to efficiency measures introduced last year. Mercedes cars have had a solid foothold in recent years, outpacing rivals such as BMW and Audi, but returns have been hampered by poor efficiency. Of course, these profit margins are expected to increase moving forward, with small steps taken in the right direction. “We have to improve the financial performance of the company,” Kallenius said. “Nobody here underestimates the challenges of the industry transformation -- but the opportunities for us prevail.”

The Maybach badge has enjoyed popularity in markets like China, which also happens to be the largest sales region for Mercedes. With demand in China starting to recover in recent weeks, revenue streams have been looking good, with the chance to continue with expansion plans beyond the traditional industrial business. “I see substantial potential for value creation -- as a luxury brand, through the transformation, and from an additional profit pool through digital business areas,” Kallenius said.

They would be fools not to do it. Maybe now we can get a totally different looking Maybach if it's electric.
