Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

I remember when Mercedes would paint any car in any color they have for an extra charge. Do they not offer that anymore?

They still do, in any case the S, SL and GT. It’s called Manufaktur exklusiv.

They are, to put it mildly, dumb asses.

For example. The AMG GT can now be had with various 'Manufactur' paint options. However this is limited to the 63 and 55 models. The 63 pro model comes with an abysmal choice of about 7 colours. The only 'grey' available is Selenite
Grey which has been on C200s in the tens of thousands since 2014.

Mercedes really knows how to make their premium buyers feel special...not.

It just reeks of cost cutting and controls. I mean it’s the same car just a different engine for goodness sakes. Gotta be a bean counter decision. I would just open the entire catalog and price it accordingly on each model. A CLE with a Blue or Brown soft top would be great. I still can’t believe all SL680s come with white seats only for the first model year. Cost control decision.

The funny part is, for cars like that, they can really just charge whatever they want for it.

Mercedes can in general when they deliver the right product. They seem to have forgotten this. People don’t even flinch at the price of G Wagon or S-Class.

My opinion is literally just; make Manufaktur open to literally every car in the range. Even the CLA and the GLB. Just charge an arm and a f#cking leg for it, if they want it. Maybe they'll sell nothing for the lower end cars, but the fact that they give you the option, says something about the Brand.

And who knows, maybe someone would want a GLB for practical reasons, but wants to spend an extra $15000 on kitting out with the highest end Nappa leather and wood trim, because f#ck it why not?

Fully agree. I love how BMW started offering Individual colors on pretty much every model. The only exceptions are the iX, iX3 (for now) and Z4.
I think customers would love to have the same experience with their Benz models as well. Just the other day we were talking about this topic actually, saying how good our E-Class would have looked in a deep metallic emerald green. That would contrast beautifully with the tan interior.
Something like this, maybe a bit more subtle.

I agree but I will guarantee you that they don’t want to go thru the expense of seating up the production facilities and logistics for all that and have very few takers. That is exactly what the bean counters will say. I’ve always seen Porsche as the German standard for this. I mean they offer leather wrapped air vents goodness sakes. I personally would like for Mercedes to go back to less volume and higher prices, but the problem they’re already at the high price point.

IMHO, currently perhaps the most visually attractive current M-B vehicle. The W/S214 present a fundamentally compeling exterior design. Star graphics in lighting units, faux neo-retro radiator grill/shields and other such tinnef are superfluous. Frankly, I'm left a bit surprised that the W/S214 haven't been performing more convincingly versus their G60/61 and Audi A6 etron/C9 A6 competition in the unit sales sweepstakes. And when I see images of the new GLC EQ or C-Class EQ and E-Class EQ prototypes, I cannot seem to shake that feeling that M-B design may be going...nowhere. My 2 Euro cents.
