Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

I always saw the G as the rich hot mummy car, that's the sort of people I see driving them in Norway.

They do appear to appeal to many women. My wife, also a design affine person, is quite the fan of the fancy-spec G's. "Rugged, cool, retro", she often says. But when she once asked me "how much do these things cost ?", a look of utter disbelief and a "WHAT ?!?" was her response to my answer.

Because you're the one coming back to the argument and wanting the last word.
I don't need to unpack the course of discussion here - you made a claim, it was refuted and criticised and then you reacted argumentatively.

I also think it makes women feel “safe” in a way.
I saw many people on social media getting the G because of how sturdy it is, and how good it makes them feel.
Also people tend to associate women with small cars but for some reason I immediately think of big SUV’s lol.

As a senior citizen myself, I can testify to a distinct feeling of "security" pertaining to elevated seating position/ride height vehicles. Practical as well. While low and sleek vehicles most certainly remain my design affine passion, my wife and I will never again own/lease such a vehicle. Small-to-midsize SUV/SAC vehicles have now become "our thing". It's what we've been driving for the past 10 years, actually.

You feel indeed very safe in this car. The driving experience is really special.
I guess the sound of the doors are part of this,

They also made it really next level with this current generation. Both dynamically and quality-wise. Previous generation had a really cheap looking interior imo. Also the ride was very stiff and not so dynamic. (according to things I saw on YouTube and social media of course)
New generation really fixed those issues. I wonder how the next generation will be. Do we have an estimated release date for it? Cause it’s almost 8 years old now.

I guess it’ll be produced much longer than the normal 7-8yrs.

26 or 27 the Convertible is coming, I guess this’ll be the ultimate flex mobile.

Apart from the convertible the next thing will be probably new engines, which should arrive in a couple of yrs.

I’d love air suspension so you can lower the car for easy access.

Please....It's just a fashion statement for them

It's "cool" to have a G wagon this days.

10-15 years ago the G-wagen was still loved by a bunch of people, wives included. Demand didn't just rise recently in the U.S. As soon as Mercedes started importing them without Europa being involved, demand steadily grew in the U.S.

And in the same time they introduced the G500 V8.

That’s exactly what I meant but unfortunately got roasted for saying it. 🤣
Most buyers don’t even know how capable of a car they have, they just buy it because of its looks.
Social media exposure plays a huge role in this as well. It made the G-Wagon even more popular.

Yeah, but to that tune, having a luxury car at all is kind of posing/making a statement.
Either of your wealth or status or your taste in cars or whatever.
I mean its baked into the entire logic of trim levels and model variants.

The gap between economy cars and luxury cars has never been smaller (neither has the price loool) so going for a Mercedes over a Toyota, or a BMW over a Kia or whatever, absolutely has a lot to do with brand image for most people, rather than what the car delivers.

How many people give a shit about RWD vs FWD? Well not enough to stop the 1er, A-class and A1/3 selling like absolute hotcakes. How many people care about drivetrain, when most people end up getting the base model with no options?

So how is Gordon not fired yet?

This is a truly great question.

Nonsense. Well, the price part that is.
A 2026 Kia Seltos costs half of what a new GLB costs and is looking to be superior on all fronts, particularly design inside out.

$24k

The new GLB starts at like around $45k (I don't see the new one on the MB USA website)

Never in a million years would I want that dreadful Benz over this Kia.
