Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

I hate the overuse of screens. Its tiring, its a distraction, its tacky.

Theres a direct correlation to the size and amount of TV’s in someones home and their wealth.

Often the super rich, will not have TV’s in the bedroom, and their living room TV isnt monstrous.

I guess we know which demographic the GLB is catering for 😂

I think nowadays more people have larger screens inside their cars than their houses although the TV screens nowadays are getting larger everyday. 100inches seems to be the new 65inch of 15 years ago.

Are you sure about that??

The Super Rich have entire home cinemas and a 65inch OLED in damn near every room if the real estate market speaks of any trend.

The new C was obviously designed when MB was still going in the design direction of the current EQs for some reason, and then when they finally realized, that wasn't a good idea, it was too late, but they changed the front with the big grill to try and make up for it. This car will seem even more than the GLC that it was designed by 2 different ideas....

I think there are 2 things need to change with the SL FL and that is Number 1 starting with the engines. The SL43 4-cylinder needs to be dropped and replaced with a SL53 inline 6 with 449PS (330kw). The SL55 and SL63 should get power boosts to 544PS (400kw) and 639PS (470kw) respectively. They should bring out a SL65 Black Series with the new flat plane crank V8 and light weight CF panels and RWD with weight trimmed to 1800kg and power boosted to 775PS (570kw).

Number 2 to change is the interior. Delete all black piano shiny plastic (including around the roof light switches) and bring more stitched leather and a new steering wheel.

I have no doubt that if they fitted the V12 into this car without major modification, people would complain about it. It's quite laggy and will make the car nose-heavy. I don't mind this in a large sedan or SUV, but that won't be a good fit for the SL in my opinion. The Maybach should be a be far more differentiated than it is now though, I must say.

A Maybach SL shouldn't concern itself with being laggy or nose heavy.
And even with the enormous turbolag, the M279 has so much torque it doesn't really matter. 1000Nm from 2300-4300rpm is more than enough to get you out of trouble (Especially with the newer automatic box, which they should uprate to handle 1000Nm).

Doesn't mean it's going to resonate with actual customers. It's not like the Maybach S650 Cabriolet flew off the lot - despite there only being a handful brought to the U.S. I know of a few that sat on the lot for quite a bit.

Every manufacturer has to grapple with the fact the grand tourer market is dead or dying around the world. Pure lux just doesn't resonate the way it used to outside of Rolls-Royce.

I think that's a larger problem with the SL in general. But if you're going to do a limited run Maybach, which has some appeal for people who want it just to show off. Then they won't care its a bit laggy, cause its not a sports car.

I can't argue with this. Everyone wants a bloody SUV. Appalling really.
I think that's why they tried making the SL a sports car - they just f#cked up by cheaping out on MSA by not making it light-weight.

I pretty much work exclusively for the super rich, ie millionaires and billionaires in london.

Royalty, celebs, old money families people have conspiracy theories about and new money tech families, to oligarchs and chinese newly rich.

I get to see every room. £120 million pound houses, £70 million pound apartments, a select few may have cinema rooms, most dont, and they dont have TV’s in every room. And where they do have TV’s id say 65” is probably the biggest.

Its a very noticeable trend, as before I worked for the super rich, I started my career going into the poorer peoples homes, and usually the poorer the person, ie state handouts, the bigger the TV.

Its comical.

No rich people spend very little time infront of the TV

Are you hiring  !?

I get where you're coming from. But I guess its old money vs new money. Old money people I guess don't like screens as much. New money probably more ostentatious - particularly the large swathes of tech stock/crypto millionaires.

There is a balance between appealing to both kinds of people. I think the W222 was probably closest to it, and Mercedes need to recover that.

As for what old money people think? I don't value the opinions of inherited wealth all that much. Frankly speaking, I don't think rich people should be paid much thought in general. They live lives so far removed from the rest of us mere mortals, and yet they can never quite have enough... But that's for another time and place.

I’ll tell you what must be next:

Automakers, including the long-suffering Mercedes, have long needed to grasp a simple truth: the world is waiting for cars worthy of the Art Deco era: with brilliance, grandeur, and unapologetic magnificence. And what do they do?

Instead, they keep producing cars for the kind of characters shown in that picture:

people chewing their sandwiches, all sorts of pushovers, left-leaning weaklings, and hopeless cuckolds, with every possible nuisance in society happily climbing onto their heads like some 5ucking low life migrants.
Those who do their yearly wrap-ups on Instagram every December 31st, which no one gives a f#ck about…

We need grandeur -not this ridiculous “biodynamic design” made for brainless sissy hipsters sipping smoothies and blowing vape clouds that taste like ripe mango. The f#cking EQ lineup, of course, doesn’t sell , but the G-Wagen does. So draw the f#cking conclusions.

Their latest Art Deco–style concept is a celebration in itself. It’s magnificent, it’s alive, it actually remembers what it means to be a car instead of a household appliance on wheels. So build it. Just f#cking build it, for heaven’s sake.
