Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

Latest news, trending discussions, reviews, and major updates
This is it. Its a SWB S-Class facelift. Mercedes executives have confirned to german newspaper that the current generation will spawn a lifecycle of atleast ten years with the ultimate goal to keep the W223 at the top of its segment.
This decision has come after a shrinking EV demand and (very) slow sales of their eq-cars.
There will not be a smaller car with the S-class facelift. Moreover, it is too early for such a comprehensive change. Next year's update will be superficial. This is not an S class. There is no such secrecy in make-up. The entire car is closed and has a different body underneath.

I must say that it is entertaining speculating what lies beneath the camouflage. Not that I really have the faintest clue other than this is a car larger than the upcoming electric C-Class sedan. Meaning, circa 4950mm of more in length and circa 1450mm or more in height. Personally, I'd be very surprised if the car were a bonafide 2 door coupe (which I do not think it is) and I am also quite certain that it has nothing to do with the upcoming AMG.EA based 4 door electric GT.

An obviously legitimate suspicion that this automotive website (either on part of independent contributors or bonafide salaried web columnists) is closely monitoring-or possibily even contributing to the contents of this thread. Quite flattering, actually.

Front doors are longer. Looks like it’s a Coupe.

That looks like a sedan to me. Perhaps it is a Mythos Maybach, a slightly rebodied S Class. Perhaps they even implement the rear split window from that GLS Maybach three-box concept.

This is what I'm thinking

Is there supposed to be some kinda mythos Maybach model coming?

Imho its clearly a coupe

...but in my admittedly highly subjective opinion, not a compellingly sound one in terms of the proportions of its architecture. Rear side glass too long in relation to the door glass, too much sheetmetal mass between the B-pillar (or side glass division) and the rear wheel arch and the perceived tricycle effect make this a hardly pretty proposition. Of course, the heavy camo may be hiding some very clever design elements and hence destroy my arguments.

I mixed spy pics between the W223 FL and this. This is why it's never good looking at stuff only on your phone. I believe now this is a coupe. Press seems to think it is the second Mythos model by MB.

Since global sales do not support having a big coupe in mass production, I guess MB has opted to produce it in much more limited numbers and at a much higher price tag.

I'm okay with that actually, if they get two things right. The big price has to be matched by a big jump in quality inside, and of course it has to look the part inside and out. Something bespoke inside. V12 too, I mean it's a wish list right. This charging more and getting less from Mercedes is going to be their total undoing.

Regarding "Mythos": I somehow suspect that "Mythos" will spawn some sort of fixed roof version of the AMG PureSpeed concept. More elegant and less flamboyant than the "haloed" open top concept. Perhaps even featuring some form of Gullwing doors ala W198 300SL coupe. And the attention grabbing Vision Maybach 6 concepts, coupe as well as convertible, would seem an appropriate foundation for some future Maybach Mythos cars.

Yes, my bet is on the stand alone 4 Dr maybach coupe rumored a while ago. Hopefully not all electric.
