Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

Latest news, trending discussions, reviews, and major updates
The cars I have seen had some poor fitting plastic trims around the transmission tunnel, in one car, the silver trim around the control pad has some very rough edges at the bottom, as if it wasn't finished properly.

Interesting. Didn't see any of those with my girlfriend's ML550 and I'm usually quick to point out imperfections. Her's isn't a first year model though.

Blast from the past: Mercedes plots return of the SEC - a sleeker kind of S-class

I don't believe this information from CAR. The four-door saloon coupe for S-Class is the next generation from CLS, that will be based over the same platform from S-Class. Maybe, they can be talking, and they don't know, about the four-door saloon coupe from Maybach

Came across these images in a facebook page. Any information on same?

Are you sure of this, because from what it sounds like, maybe MB is pulling from it's heritage to give this four door S Class coupe a meaningful name rather than just lining it up with present day nomenclature, which would in turn allow the present day CLS to keep it's name. I like the CLS and I feel it's identity is tied in with it's name.

Eh, I would hope they end up naming it the CLS so they don't confuse the naming lineup any farther.

Next-Gen Mercedes A-Class To Spawn Saloon, Two-Door Shooting Brake?

The four-year old A-Class has received a refreshed look in 2015, but it seems that it wasn't enough, as the 3-pointed star is reportedly planning a new generation in the next couple of years.
AutoBild, the upcoming model will be significantly improved, especially inside, where it will make room for a new infotainment system and head-up display, along with new materials, rivaling the high quality finishes of its larger sibling, the C-Class.

Moreover, the next A-Class will provide easier access to the rear seats thanks to wider doors, and it will also increase its legroom and headroom for rear passengers.

Mods will continue with new body styles, as the compact car is expected to gain a two-door Shooting Brake variant, which will go Volkswagen Scirocco hunting. Besides targeting a new segment, the car will also serve as a replacement for the current CLA Shooting Brake. Positioned below the CLA four-door coupe will be a sleek sedan aimed at the United States and China.

The next-gen compact hatchback should ride on a new modular platform, which will also underpin the replacements of the CLA, B-Class and GLA. The latter is expected to change its nameplate and to be called GLB, gaining a design apparently inspired by the rugged G-Class. Besides its new look, the GLB will become longer in order to accommodate its 7-seat layout.

Yes, I'm sure. As sure that the Autobild and Carscoop's information about the new bodies from next A-Class contain wrongs too.

A 3 door A-Class makes sense, both Audi and BMW have 3 door versions of their compact offerings.

Does it make sense to have another sub C-Class sedan though?

"CLS" would still be the wrong name as it wouldn't fit in with the nomenclature.

Betty, remember we talked about this? Based on MB's new (old) nomenclature, the CLS is a half step above the E class, so MB accounted for that. But if MB has plans to change the name to "CLE" (four door e class coupe) and name the rumored SEC, to "CLS", then yeah, it'll be easier to understand. I do hope the CLS gets to keep it's though, and I do hope it's not just a re-skinned E class; a literal "CLE". BTW, I wonder what MB's gonna name the AMG GT four door Panny fighter and where that's gonna fit on the nomenclature?

I think that was just an excuse on MB's part in order to explain the CLS. I very much doubt that going forward, should there be a four-door coupe of the E-Class, that it will be called "CLS".

Why the name from the AMG GT four door Panny fighter has to fit on the nomenclature? I ask you only if you're talking from the new MB's nomenclature...

Do it have the A3 Sedan and next 2-Series Sedan?

Sorry, not sure I understood, but to clarify what I meant... does Mercedes need a CLA and A-Class Sedan?

Will BMW have 1-er Sedan and 2-er Gran Coupe? Would Audi have A3 sedan and TT "sportback"?

Genuine questions, I'm not saying they would or wouldn't, just questioning if it is worth it?

Well it's an AMG-specific high end model so it doesn't have to fit in on the nomenclature. I'm pretty sure eventually MB will include the AMG GT cars on the nomenclature though.

BTW, I was casually asking a complex question. What were they going to name the AMG GT four door, how would it relate to the current nomenclature and where does it fit (above/below the S Class).
Since there's the AMG GT, the four door AMG GT, plus the electric models on the way, an updated nomenclature will probably drop within a year or two or three.
