Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

Daimler has no ambition to run AML. :)

"I don't think we could do a better job running a 4,000-units-a-year company than Aston Martin's management,” Zetsche said on the sidelines of a press event here. http://europe.autonews.com/article/...:-daimler-has-no-ambition-to-run-aston-martin

Having shown us what they can do with the SLS and the GT, AMG or Mercedes do not have any need for Aston Martin.

In the late nineties, they came very close to acquiring Rolls Royce. I wish that had that happened, so none of this Rolls competitor crap would litter these threads. (I personally believe MB should not be involved in the Rolls-competing business.)

Says TopGear.com:

Mercedes reveals its AMG Sport line
New performance range to sit just below full-fat AMGs, to take on BMW and Audi

How to celebrate? By introducing a semi-skimmed version of its AMG range. Today, we learn that Mercedes has introduced the ‘AMG Sport' line of cars, which are like BMW's sub-M Division ‘M Performance' range - think M135i.

Why? "To render the AMG brand and its technology more accessible," that's why. So ‘AMG Sport' will sit just below the proper AMG stuff - the mentalist, tyre-melting ones we rather like here at TG - and just above the simple AMG Sport spec cars.

So you're looking at things like more powerful engines, four-wheel-drive in selected markets (don't count on any of those heading to the UK, though), special chassis components and better brakes. Also, we suspect, some noise.

The first two ‘AMG Sport' cars will be revealed at next January's Detroit motor show - two cars teased in the picture above. The one on the left looks suspiciously like a Mercedes-Benz version of the BMW X6, aka the new GLE Coupe, no?

"The new Sport models represent a convincing proposition for our customers," explains AMG boss Tobias Moers. "For all our dynamic growth, we remain true to our brand claim of ‘driving performance".

What kind of AMG Sport car would you lot like to see? Perhaps a sort of sub-C63; lightweight, stripped out and bursting with revs...

And the picture they gave us:

Shall we hail to the new GLE-Coupe?

Looks like the AMG Sport C450 and maybe AMG Sport GLE550 (to fit between GLE500 and AMG GLE 63) I like them!

C&D is saying that the AMG Sport version of the GLE will be the GLE 450 with the hi-po version of the 3.0L turbo V6. We'll see. I don't get how they could have the GLE450 AMG Sport below the GLE 550 though? GLE63 AMG is the one though. That is going to be a monster on stilts. I surely hope MB is finally really to get rid of the 3.5L n/a V6 in the ML/GLE models and the 7G transmission.

GLE and C450 AMG Sport models are definitely coming to Detroit and I can't wait to see them in person next month.

After that we should see the ML-->GLE facelift/transformation and the GL to GLS facelift/transformation. The new GLC (GLK) in Geneva with the C Coupe or Cabriolet, or possibly the S Cabriolet? Considering how much detail we're seeing of the new E-Class, I'd say that one is on deck for Frankfurt next year along with the AMG GT Roadster. Sprinkle in the SLK and possible SL facelifts sometime in 2015 also.

Sure would be nice to see an AMG Sport E-Class and a GLS 600 Maybach complete with V12. Too much to ask for I know.

Great info! Thanks @rs271!

A few things. We are really going to have to wait almost another year for the C Coupe. There is no S Cabrio or C Cabrio on there either. No mention of the GL to GLS facelift! Looks like some of those dates are actually on sale/market introduction dates and some are reveal dates. Good stuff!

"Novedades" means "news" in Spanish. I think what we're missing is to the right of the screen where it will say "reveal" or "market introduction". Look at the CLA Shooting Brake for example. Market introduction is probably around March next year. "AMG Sport" line is likely to be revealed at Detroit in January.

GLE/GLE Coupe for June 2015 must be market introduction.

What is strange is that C-Class Coupe is listed as November 2015. This must be market introduction, but then in that case you would think it would say when the unveiling is, which is reported to be Geneva March 2015.

Thanks Betty, that makes more sense.

Isn't the AMG GT for sale already? Or not in Spain @SKY

I think I read somewhere that in many markets, such as the UK for example, the GT isn't on sale until next year, and the GT S is not on sale until September next year, which would be annoying for me if I'd ordered one.

^ Yes. It's on sale in the UK, but the market intros for the GT S and Edition 1 (which is allegedly sold out) are in March, while the GT is to follow about 6 months later around September of 2015.

Strictly speaking it's "available to order". It's not a sale until the car is registered.

I'm just shocked there is no S Cabrio on that list. The car looks ready to me. Where the hell is the GLS/GL facelift?

Suspect the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Pullman comes next in the S-Class pipeline, and may debut at the Geneva auto show in the spring followed by a market introduction "without fanfare" late next year. The S-Cabrio, then, perhaps celebrates its world premiere at the IAA 2015 in Frankfurt, ready for a market launch in 2016?

As for the GLS, it might adhere to the usual pattern, and trail the GLE by a few months to a year? :)
