Actually u r right Just_Me, some times the E55 is faster, especially when the E63 is in automatic mode, here is a great example : say the E63 is running at 50 mph on auto mode and u peddle to the mettle , its supposed to down shift to 2nd gear but it only downs to 3rd, thus in the automatic mode it will not push to the edges in the E63, but when I drive it manual , I can down shift to 2nd and get higher rev and more torque, then switch to 3rd at 57 mph, little differences like that change the race completely..... Now in this case there is never a problem when it comes down to driving the E55 in automatic mode cause it has a 5 gear trany, the automatic mode is comfortable punching its max at any speed cause it has less gears to deal with therefor it is less complicating ..... So this is a reason why the E63 is a more fun car to drive, u have to work it yourself if u want to win .... there are lots of lags in the E63 in automatic mode especially in a rolling start, the car must be used on manual mode especially off a rolling start, same goes for the M5 and u know so....

The 2003 W211 E500 is a very impressive car. The engine is powerful with performance matching the older W124 500E and the W210 E50 AMG, despite having less power and torque. Its engine is also very smooth and the cruising fuel consumption doesn't seem that bad for a big car with a 5lt V8.
For a car that is 20 years old, the E55 AMG is still very fast and such a sleeper as a wagon. One of my favorite Mercedes super saloons/wagons. The Sledgehammer with a huge 700nm. 0-100 in 4.6sec and let's say 14.6sec if judging by a perfect launch and 10sec 100-200km/h is still faster than today's C43/CLE53 and E53 W213 models.
